KITTEN ARMY! I have returned! Stand to attention!
As you may be aware, I, Colonel Kitten took a leave of absence last year, in order to learn how to be more empathetic and calm. Unfortunately, due to an admin error, I was accidentally enrolled in a macrame class. I am still fuming, but I make a really nice wicker basket.
SO STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND LISTEN!
Commander Torvalds has sent a memo. I have memorised the contents. Private Jones…. eat the memo.
Linux 5.0 has been released for manoeuvres. I realise that this is normally rewarded with a day of mess leave, but the Commander has said clearly that it's not significant:
"I'd like to point out (yet again) that we don't do feature-based releases, and that '5.0' doesn't mean anything more than that the 4.x numbers started getting big enough that I ran out of fingers and toes."
He should try being a cat. WELL? LAUGH!
The majority of operational changes are drivers - around half in fact. Very little architecture has changed and there aren't any new features.
JONES! STOP CHEWING AND SWALLOW!
The commander does note that the driver to support ISDN has been mothballed in this edition. And that's not the kind of moth that you can climb the curtains to play with.
Significant updates include support for the Adiantum file system - the one that's on low-end Android phones and is fully encrypted, though not as effective as eating the message.
Also new is a fix for memory fragmentation, which should make our patrols faster and more smooth. There's also further mitigation to get around the roadblocks we set up to get around Spectre and Meltdown.
THEY WILL NOT PENETRATE THESE BARRACKS!
For those engaged in Project Raspberry Pi, there is now support for touchscreens.
At present, we are still in a testing phase. Attempts to install the new Linux 5.0 operational plan will be met with borkage. YOU HEAR ME, SOLDIERS?
As such, we have been advised to wait on base for the arrival of the first stable builds of Linux distros, which should be out in a month or so.
I have further information here but I can't find i……
JONES! UP HERE NOW! REGURGITATE THAT LIST LIKE A HAIRBALL! WE'RE NOT FINISHED! μ
Colonel Kitten is back but probably needs a lie-down in a warm airing cupboard.
Some deliberately, others through stupidity
Quite the business expense
It's another quantum leap camera
Evolution, not revolution, but that's just fine
