THE GALAXY S8 will apparently be the first Samsung smartphone to feature an "all-screen" bezel-less design.
So says Bloomberg, which has heard from 'people with direct knowledge of the matter' that the Galaxy S8 will feature an AMOLED panel with a display area ratio exceeding 90 per cent.
This display will also feature a fingerprint sensor that's embedded within the glass, Bloomberg notes, negating the need for a dedicated home button. This follows reports that the iPhone 8 will also dump the traditional home button.
This Galaxy S8's bezel-less screen will come in the same 5.1 and 5.5in sizes as this year's Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, although Samsung reportedly won't release a dedicated S8 Edge model, instead equipping all models with a wraparound display.
The report closes off by saying that Samsung is aiming for a March release of the Galaxy S8, but notes that this might slip to April due to more stringent testing procedures in the wake of the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco.
This latest rumour haul comes just days after it was outed that the Galaxy S8 likely will follow the iPhone 7 by dumping the 3.5mm headphone jack.
It will allegedly support audio over USB-C instead, which means just like the iPhone 7, you won't be able to hook up your existing headphones, nor charge your smartphone and listen to music at the same time. However, it will allow Samsung to make the Galaxy S8 thinner while also freeing up more space inside for a bigger battery.
That's not all we know about the upcoming Galaxy S8. Samsung has already confirmed that its next top-end smartphone will be the first to come with a Siri-rivaling AI assistant, and has hinted that it'll also be among the first handsets to pack Qualcomm's 10nm Snapdragon 83Further.
Further speculation also points to the handset packing a 5.1in 2160x3840 AMOLED Edge display, IP68 certification, both a fingerprint sensor and iris scanner, an iPhone 7 Plus-style dual camera set up and Google's Android 7.0 Nougat software. µ
