SAMSUNG'S GEAR S3 smartwatches have finally gone up for pre-order in the UK following the launch event at IFA last month.
Samsung has kept quiet on prices and availability for the Gear S3 Classic and S3 Frontier smartwatches until now. The firm still hasn't said anything, but UK retailer MobileFun became the first to kick off pre-orders for the duo of wrist-worn gadgets.
MobileFun hasn't given an exact release date for the Samsung smartwatches, but said it should have stock within "two to three weeks".
Samsung no doubt hopes that the Tizen-powered duo will boost sales of the firm's smartwatch devices. IDC revealed last month that Samsung shipped fewer than one million wearables during the second quarter.
The Gear S3 Classic and S3 Frontier improve on the Gear S2, and Samsung has replaced the plastic-looking bezel with a ridged, brushed metal rotating bezel. The Classic comes in stainless steel, while the Frontier has a matte black finish. Both have a leather strap.
This redesign adds some bulk to the devices, which are 12.9mm thick compared with the 11.4mm Gear S2.
The added girth isn't just for show. Samsung has included GPS in both models, and one of the two Frontier variants has LTE connectivity. The other uses Bluetooth/WiFi as standard, as does the Classic. There's also a beefier 380mAh battery which Samsung claimed will last three to four days.
There's a slightly bigger 1.3in display compared with the Gear S2's 1.2in, and the Gear S3's screen remains on at all times while displaying its full colour range. The Gear S2 showed only eight colours when in standby. µ
