WHATSAPP IS ABOUT to become as annoying as parent company Facebook after an update to the app made it impossible to ignore group messages.
We've all been there. You're hungover trying to get some work done and somebody in your WhatsApp group message has just discovered what a meme is.
As of today, you'll no longer be able to simply ignore these messages, as WhatsApp has added a new tagging feature for groups that will, if you're tagged, alert you to a message even if you've muted a conversation.
If you're that person who won't let up, here's how to piss off your friends: to tag someone, enter the '@' symbol followed by the contact's name. Just like on Facebook and Instagram, a menu will show up where you can select the contact.
If you're feeling in a particularly annoying mood, you can tag multiple contacts in a single message, as well as contacts that aren’t saved in your address book but are part of the same group chat.
This WhatsApp update also expands maximum group sizes from 100 to 256 participants, aimed at the zero people using the app who have 256 'friends'.
The new feature is rolling out to WhatsApp for iOS and Android, but isn't yet available on the desktop version.
The new version of WhatsApp also lets you answer Siri calls from the lock screen, while a new lock screen widget lets you jump to recent chats and unread messages.
You can now tap on the screen to switch between the front and rear cameras, upping your dinkle photo-taking game. µ
