US PRESIDENT Barack Obama has admitted that he still uses a BlackBerry, and has a belt clip to carry it, but is due to upgrade to something that is newer, but somehow crapper.
Obama was on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which is on the telly and is not particularly political, but has been shown to be rather tech-savvy when it has spoofed people about the iPhone.
The problem of the POTUS phone came up during the Obama interview, and the president admitted that his hardware had not moved with the times, and that he, like Dwight in The Office, wears an old school phone holster for his old school phone, albeit not very proudly.
Things have changed for BlackBerry in recent years and we think that the following tweet, from an unofficial account, sums up most people's perceptions of the brand.
"I was this cool high-tech guy when I got there, and I was the first president to have a BlackBerry," he said as he discussed his move back into the outside world. "Years have passed. No-one has the BlackBerry and I still have the clip."
Of course, being the president's phone it is locked down like presents at Christmas, and is basically a child-friendly version of the real thing. Obama said that his people told him this year that the upgrade was coming, but admitted that he was disappointed by its parochial features.
"I get the thing and they're all: 'Mr President, for security reasons, this is a great phone, state-of-the-art, but it doesn't take pictures, you can't text, the phone doesn't work, you can't play your music on it,'" he added.
"Does your three-year-old have one of those play phones? It's got stickers on it. That's basically the phone I've got." µ
