FREE-ROAMING car theft and smack people game Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) has just been updated and has apparently celebrated by taking a little bit of time off and dropping the online experience for gamers.
Rockstar, the company behind the successful GTA games, probably wasn't expecting this. The firm presented the news of the update with a positive face and a lot of promises about fun to come. It did not say that things were going to get this dark.
"Continue your mission to become the ultimate criminal kingpin of Los Santos and Blaine County in GTA Online: Further Adventures in Finance and Felony, now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC," Rockstar said in a GTA V information update.
"As CEO, you'll enjoy all the special abilities of being a VIP, plus access to a whole new frontier of black market opportunities with SecuroServ's patented Special Cargo Network, allowing you to buy and sell illegal goods across a city-wide empire."
Viva Piñata it ain't. It is also not online, according to a lot of posts underneath the launch statement, and some gamers have complained that they or their friends have been "banned" since applying the update.
"I got banned for no reason and with me are many others. Even players not playing for many weeks got a ban! I've been playing GTA online since GTA 5 was released on PS3. I wouldn't hack to risk my account I worked so long on," said one disgruntled punter.
"Rockstar is keeping silent about this major banning issue and ignored all tickets being made and tweets/fb messages from all the players. Rockstar really became a crappy developer the past years where corporate greed really has taken over the love to entertain fans."
Other users do not seem to have any problems, and say that they like the update.
The Rockstar support pages claim that the game is back online across all platforms. The firm has also provided an information page on fixing some of the problems with the update. µ
