A BRILLIANT MIND has crossed a throwaway Burger King toy with a Raspberry Pi Zero and come up with a useable version of the Nintendo Gameboy, which is something that we loved and still miss.
We also like creativity and the idea of playing games on things that are not supposed to make it possible. We also like burgers.
Reddit user ChaseLambeth has a toy Gameboy that has been turned into a real Gameboy, which is practically the pixel version of Pinocchio or Pygmalion.
The idea was roundly twatted down when it was first mooted on Reddit, but things have changed since those days and everyone is a fan of the smartphone-sized device that effectively apes a handset that a hardware company officially stopped making some time ago.
"I can't even get my 3DS XL to work properly, but here's this person that made a toy into a working Gameboy," said one user.
Another said: "This is one of those 'take my money now' things, seriously. Take my money."
ChaseLambeth was working on one of his own, but found the $250 beauty on Instagram. It is a very neat thing, and has rapidly become a must have thanks to its ability to run a Gameboy emulator through a Gameboy-like device.
Someone called Joe7Dust has reacted to this, and is taking orders on the devices now. He has also promised guidance documentation on how to make your own. You will need the Pi Zero and someone who keeps hold of old burger toys.
That is probably your best bet. This offer seems to have run out at two pre-orders. Those early folk will pay $250, apparently, and will get their units in original Gameboy cases.
We want one. We at The INQUIRER like an unusual port. µ
But it's not yet available here in Blighty
We're not sure this is what The Maybot had in mind
