SOFTWARE UPHOLSTERY COMPANY Microsoft has rushed to fix problems experienced by customers trying to move to the recently updated version of Windows Store.
"Recent Store update won't install. Throws error 0x80073cf3," is the short and succinct first complaint.
Seven people had shared the comment at the time of writing, according to the page. It is hard to tell whether Microsoft was expecting the complaints, but the firm was quick to respond, albeit not with much of a solution.
"This is a new issue that was discovered after the app was published to the Store. No users are able to install this newest Store app version. There's a packaging conflict in the app which prevents install," said a disembodied head called Jason.
"The Store team is actively working on creating a new app package and will release it when ready. This will fix the install issue and allow users to install this new Store version.
"Please note: this does not have any negative impact on your PC, it is only an issue with the install package itself. I'll post up when the new app version is available for download."
This came too late for some. One person had spent two hours, during which they could have watched most of The Godfather, trying and failing to install the new Windows Store.
Another user added that there is a problem with the update on Lumia phones, but that's a bit niche for us.
The update was announced and discussed earlier this week with a good dose of glory. Windows 10 build 14342 promises features including notifications in the Edge browser and other handy bits and bobs and compromises.
"We also have some new extensions available for you to try out. We are excited to announce that starting with this build, AdBlock and Adblock Plus are now available for download in the Windows Store in addition to Pin It Button, Mouse Gestures, Reddit Enhancement Suite, Microsoft Translator and OneNote Web Clipper," said Gabe Aul, corporate vice president for the Windows Engineering Systems team.
"It is recommended that you only install one of either AdBlock or Adblock Plus as having them both running at the same time can cause issues with viewing websites in Microsoft Edge." µ
