LENOVO HAS UNVEILED a mobile workstation for creative professionals in need of a powerful digital sketching and design tool.
The Lenovo ThinkPad P40 Yoga is claimed to offer a "first-class digital sketching experience" with high mobile workstation performance and reliability. It was launched at Autodesk University 2015, one of the world's biggest professional design events, in Las Vegas on Tuesday.
"From digital artists storyboarding the latest Hollywood blockbuster to engineers designing the next hot new car, creative professionals need to sketch their designs and bring those designs to life," explained Lenovo.
"To do this, users typically purchased two systems: a tablet to deliver the sensitivity and accuracy of a premium sketching experience, and a mobile workstation to render designs in powerful applications."
The ThinkPad P40 Yoga is said to offer both owing to a flexibility that we know from Lenovo's previous laptop designs as 'yoga', which brings four different modes to one machine: laptop, stand, tent and tablet.
The system promises accurate sketching precision through a highly responsive pen and touchscreen powered by Wacom Active ES technology, offering 2,048 levels of pressure sensitivity on a 2560x1440 IPS display.
"Working with Wacom, Lenovo developed a unique driver to get closer than ever to the ‘pen to paper' experience," said the firm.
A rechargeable ThinkPad Pen Pro is included for a comfortable and realistic sketching experience, according to Lenovo, along with additional pen tips providing varied levels of tactile feedback.
The ThinkPad P40 Yoga is powered by an Nvidia Quadro M500M GPU with 2GB of VRAM, alongside an Intel 6th-generation Core i7 CPU, up to 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD.
For the first time in a mobile workstation, the ThinkPad P40 Yoga features Lenovo's innovative Lift ‘n Lock keyboard with a frame that automatically rises around the keys when the device switches into tablet mode, providing the ability to work in a more comfortable way.
Lenovo also announced the ThinkPad P50s and ThinkStation P310. The ThinkPad P50s completes the ThinkPad P Series family, featuring more affordable functionality in a thinner, lighter mobile workstation.
Features of the ThinkPad P50s include a 3K IPS display for clearer images, and Lenovo Power Bridge technology that allows up to 17 hours of battery life.
The ThinkStation P310 builds on the success of the Lenovo ThinkStation P300, offering an entry-level machine with the technology of a high-end workstation. Featuring the new Intel Xeon E3-1200v5 and Nvidia GPU technology, the system also doubles the memory capacity of previous entry-level workstations, offering up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM and support for FLEX drives with Samsung M.2 NVMe SSDs. µ
The ThinkPad P40 Yoga, ThinkPad P50s and ThinkStation P310 will be available in the first quarter of 2016 through Lenovo business partners and the firm's online store.
Prices for the ThinkPad P40 Yoga begin at $1,399 (£930), while the ThinkPad P50s begins at $1,299 (£870) and the ThinkStation P310 at $729 (£490). There are no official UK prices just yet. µ
