AWARD WINNING ACTOR and potential Keyser Söze Kevin Spacey has been elected to play the role of ambassador at a company called WISeKey Security.
Spacey is happy to be there - money is money, after all - and WISeKey is happy to have him. The firm expects that employing a man who can pull off a convincing limp is just the kick up the backside that internet security awareness needs.
Spacey accepted the role on Twitter, while WISeKey has taken the press release route. The company said that the actor, who may have separated Brad Pitt and his wife from her head in the film Seven, will have an immediate impact on the awareness of cyber security.
These are old references. Spacey can also be spotted in the Netflix programme House of Cards killing a dog a few minutes into the first episode. The rest is a lot of political shenanigans.
As if on cue, Spacey appeared stage left to introduce himself and his interest in the exciting world of cyber security.
"I have always been fascinated by the complex and crucial world of technology and security. WISeKey's grasp of the challenges and the potential of this space have greatly impressed me as they have developed a range of products and services that are leading the field," he ‘said'.
"I look forward to working with [WISeKey founder and CEO] Carlos [Moreira] and the team to learn more about their technology and to help communicate WISeKey's story around the world."
Moreira made all the appropriate noises. "Kevin Spacey will be a terrific ambassador for WISeKey to help us enhance international awareness of the importance of personal cyber security," he said.
"Kevin has a keen interest in technology and a fascinating perspective on cyber security. We look forward to introducing him to WISeKey's suite of products and solutions and to working with him as the industry evolves."
Spacey is also in films including K-PAX, American Beauty, in which a plastic bag is the star, and L.A. Confidential, in which he is most excellent. µ
