TAIPEI: ASUS has unveiled a narcissist's dream gadget at Computex 2015, a smartphone that is dedicated to taking the perfect selfie shots.
Named the Zenfone Selfie (yes, really), Asus' fresh handset joins the Zenfone 2 and boasts both 13MP front and rear-facing cameras with a number of face-enhancing features such as real-time 'beautification', dual real-tone flash and laser focus for sharper face snaps.
Asus says that these features are ideal for "capturing life moments" - while looking like a tart, we imagine.
"I'm not the only narcissist in this room, we all want to be beautiful, right?" said Asus' design centre director, Jen Chuang, just before she held up the device and took a shot of herself.
"Real-time beautification is like wearing digital makeup, and with a dual real-tone LED flash it's like having a personal spotlight wherever I go, making sure I look good."
Reinforcing the notion that people are better looking on social media than in real life, Asus' Zenfone Selfie also touts HDR colour enhancing tech that apparently increases colour and contrast by up to four times, bringing all detail back in the photos and to avoid dark faces in photographs.
"At night or in a party, you might not usually be able to capture anything, but with our colour-merging tech, we can increase light sensitivity by 400 percent," added Chuang. "Macro focusing goes as close as 6cm to bring all the details out you don't see" - perhaps she's referring to pimples and black heads?
In terms of specs, the Asus Zenfone Selfie features a 5.5in full HD display with 403ppi and 178 degree viewing angles. Inside, there's a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, 4G LTE, and all the other standard bits and bobs you'd expect from a phone of this calibre.
The most controversial feature however is the phone's Selfie Swing, a stand that flips out of the chassis - a bit like a built in selfie stick - to help you take photos at better angles, like the back of your head if, for instance, you get bored of your face - something quite possible after owning this phone a while.
We have no idea if or when the Zenfone selfie will hit the UK, or for how much. We do know that if it does arrive it might be available in all the most masculine colours: pastel pink, baby blue, or pearl white.
Check back soon for our hands-on, where we will no doubt dazzle you with our overwhelmingly beautiful face shots.
