A PETITION to get the console game Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5) released on the PC has nearly reached it's 500,000 signatures target.
The console versions of the game for the Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) and Microsoft Xbox 360 went on sale yesterday, but PC users are in the dark about a version for their chosen hardware.
The petition was created late last year, but news about the PC release has not been forthcoming.
Now, at 428,926 signatures when we last looked, it is possible that the petition will light a little fire under Rockstar, a firm that is expected to make many millions from its game that cost multi-millions to develop.
Addressed to Rockstar Games, the petition appeals for a mod-ready PC version.
"Please release GTA V on PC. GTA games have been a large part of so many people's lives and it's a big shame not seeing the newest iteration of the game being released on the most powerful platform. Things like modifications have always been a HUGE part of PC gaming and modded GTA is some of the most insanely fun times you can have," it reads.
"I hope you consider the release of GTA V on PC as it'll make many people very happy!"
There is a precedent here, as Rockstar has released previous Grand Theft Auto games for the PC.
Grand Theft Auto IV for the PC came out around eight months after the console versions. Presumably petition signers are hoping that they will not have to wait as long for satisfaction.
We have asked Rockstar for information on a PC release, but we suspect that it will remain tight-lipped for a little while yet. µ
