ZOMBIE ACTION GAME The Last of Us has become a smash hit on the Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) and has sold millions of copies in just a few weeks.
The game was released around four weeks ago and has already sold 3.4 million copies. It is a Playstation exclusive, which means that these sales are concentrated on the one console.
Major Nelson, who is usually found talking about all things Xbox, took time out of his schedule to congratulate the firms behind the game.
"That is quite the achievement (or rather Trophy)," he said in a message to developer Naughty Dog.
The official line came from the Sony Playstation Twitter account and a message by Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) Worldwide Studios.
An excited Twitter message translated from the original Japanese was first with the news, and said that positive reviews will have helped push sales upwards. "The Last of Us on (PS3) of Sale is 3.4 million this breakthrough!," it said. "It has won a high reputation both at home and abroad, reviews of large everyone also wanted!"
More sense can be found in the statement released by SCE, and the teams behind the title were credited with giving punters something fun and unique.
"These sales figures are a testament to the blockbuster quality of The Last of Us," said Yoshida.
"The teams at Naughty Dog are true visionaries and their storytelling capabilities are second to none, this title is an undisputed demonstration of that. SCE continues to be committed to delivering unique gameplay experiences that redefine the interactive entertainment industry and The Last of Us is a perfect example."
The game went on sale on 14 June. µ
