THE 1990'S classic Neo Geo gaming console will get a 20 year anniversary re-release in December.
The release is a bundle of three things. The console, a joystick, and a handheld with a 4.3in LCD display called the Neo Geo X Gold will cost a shade under $200 and come bundled with a catalogue of games.
Neo Geo games never went away. Many of them are available on IOS and Android app stores and in the Playstation store, but this release is designed to appeal to retro gaming enthusiasts. There are 20 bundled games including Fatal Fury, King of Fighters and Metal Slug.
The hardware is being made and retailed by videogames reseller Tommo, and SNK Playmore and the firms released information about it exclusively to Retrogamingroundup.
"Great game consoles don't die; they're just reborn in much more affordable and convenient packages," said Tommo CEO Jonathan Wan.
"The Neo Geo X Gold is a love letter to one of my favorite consoles of all time, and working with SNK Playmore to acquire the Neo Geo license, Tommo looks to provide gaming and entertainment enthusiasts with a classic arcade experience both at home and on the go."
The hardware will be sold in North America, Asia and Europe, and is set for release on 6 December. µ
