ANDROID BOSS Andy Rubin has posted a rare tweet to boast that the operating system has reached 900,000 activations a day, just hours before Apple's WWDC keynote.
Rubin rarely makes an appearance on Twitter, occasionally popping up to quote Android figures. His latest ramblings posted yesterday reveal that Android is hitting 900k activations daily, up from the 850,000 figure he posted on the network back in February.
Funnily enough, this tweet comes just hours before Apple's WWDC keynote in San Francisco, where the Cupertino company will no doubt have its own statistics to share.
No plans to leave Google.Oh, and just for meme completeness -- there are over 900,000 android devices activated each day :-)@Scobleizer— Andy Rubin (@Arubin) June 10, 2012
The tweet also sees Rubin quashing rumours that he is leaving Google to head a new startup. That speculation came from US blogger Robert Scoble, who claimed that Rubin plans to leave the internet search giant to manage a new company called Cloud Car.
Writing at Google+ Scoble said, "Today I heard that the head of Android, +Andy Rubin, will soon leave Google and head to a new startup called http://www.cloudcar.com/.
"Now, that rumour has two purposes: one, it might be true, in which case I start thinking about what that means for Android. I certainly will be looking for those signs when I attend the Google IO conference.
"It has another purpose, which makes me interested in CloudCar -- a startup I know nothing about. But if you look at the management team that startup has a sizeable list of Silicon Valley stars building up on its team. Definitely one to watch!"
However, since Rubin logged onto Twitter to deny the rumour, we're guessing it's unlikely to be true. µ
