SOFTWARE HOUSE Microsoft claims that it saw a 98 per cent success rate in its "Smoked by Windows Phone" campaign as handsets running its mobile operating system managed to outperform the competition.
Microsoft staffer Ben Rudolph revealed the statistics in a post on the Windows Team blog, claiming that out of 51,313 head to head matches, 50,675 or 98 per cent were Windows Phone victories. He said only 638 users of "other phones" have won since the contest started at CES 2012. The phones that Windows Phone handsets have successfully 'smoked' include the Iphone 4S, Samsung Galaxy S II, Samsung Galaxy Nexus and HTC Evo 3D.
It's worth noting, though, that the tests favour Windows Phone features, while picking out the weaknesses of phones running Android and IOS. For example, one test involved taking a photo and posting it to Facebook, a process that is famously quicker on Windows Phone devices.
Another test included updating your status across multiple social networks, which is notably quicker using Microsoft's People app than by opening multiple applications on the Iphone 4S.
Microsoft might be claiming that its phone is faster than our phone, but until the company does some proper testing we're not paying any attention. µ
