MICRO BLOGGING OUTFIT Twitter turned six years old yesterday and celebrated its birthday by sharing a few brief facts about its services.
The firm has changed much in six years, and no one there expected that it would hit the heady heights that it has. Now, it says in a post on the Twitter blog, it has 140 million active users who send 340 million messages a day.
Twitter launched on 21 March 2006 with a brief message from its founder.

"When Jack first sketched out his notion in March 2006, no one could have predicted the trajectory of this new communication tool," writes the company.
"Now it seems that there are as many ways to express yourself in 140 characters as there are people doing it."
Twitter generates one billion tweets every three days, but it did not start like that. It took 3 years, 2 months, and 1 day to reach the first billion tweets, and around 18 months to sign up its first 500,000 accounts.
Now half a million Twitter accounts are created each day. µ
