US PHONE MAKER Motorola will revive an iconic brand when it announces its Razr handset later today.
A timer is counting down on the firm's web site for the big announcement with just under eight hours remaining. We believe that the device will be called the Razr. An image of the phone was put on the Motorola web site today, according to Droid-life.
The handset will be revealed in the US later today and there is a European event scheduled for tomorrow in Germany. The smartphone might be called the Droid Razr but has a code name of Spyder so these could be different names for the two continents.
Motorola released a teaser video for the event last week that hinted at the revival of the Razr brand by showing a razor blade part of the way through. It also said the device would be faster, thinner, smarter and stronger.
The image shows a typically Motorola looking handset but it's much thinner than its previous handsets and has a rear facing HD camera. In the US it will come on Verizon with 4G technology.
Some other possible specifications for the Razr include a 4.3in qHD Super AMOLED screen and that it could come with Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS).
The only issue is that Google hasn't announced the first device to come with ICS and Motorola confirmed to The INQUIRER that the announcement is not a joint one with Google.
