TELEVISION BOXES put out by Apple will become another laughing stock thanks to Steve Jobs' obsession with using the same chip that is in the botched Iphone 4.
The Apple TV box will cost only $99 but it will ship with an A4 CPU, 16GB of flash storage and will introduce new video streaming services on Itunes.
According to Engadget, despite the fact there are better chips out there, Jobs is insisting that the project use the A4 processor, which means that while other TV boxes can handle HD 1080i or 1080p video, Apple's TV box will only be able to manage lower resolution 720p clips.
But there is something slightly wrong with this as the Iphone 3GS could play back full HD 1080p video.
It looks like Jobs has insisted that the design will suck up too much power for the chip to do the only thing that a TV box is supposed to do, run telly programs.
The other amusing thing is that Apple will be officially changing the name of the device to the ITV. We are not sure how he will get away with this in Blighty, where 'ITV' is associated with a telly channel that runs low brow television.
Either way we would think that associating the Apple TV with the broken Iphone 4 will be the kiss of death for anything other than sales to people who do not know anything about technology and just buy whatever Steve tells them. µ
