PUNTERS WHO USE Microsoft's Rights Management Service (RMS) on Office 2003 have suddenly found themselves unable to access their documents.
Office 2003 users have been getting the error, "Unexpected error occurred. Please try again later or contact your system administrator," when they attempt to open or save protected documents.
Of course the system administer knows only as much about this as the next bloke, if the next bloke is George Bush.
The problem apparently is being caused by a bug that seems to be in all of the Vole's Office 2003 products including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Office 2007 and 2010 Beta users have no problems and are secretly smirking at their backward colleagues who have not updated.
Meanwhile Openoffice.org users are laughing at all of them because they have not had to pay Microsoft for the experience of having its software lock them out of their documents.
A spokesVole said that the bug was caused by a Information Rights Management (IRM) certificate that had expired and it is working "as quickly as possible" to provide its customers with a solution.
There's more about this latest Microsoft fiasco here. µ
