Fri Jun 28 2013, 12:08

GADGET DESIGNER Apple's iPhone 5 is six months old, but that doesn't stop people from flocking to buy the firm's latest smartphone.

Popular it might be, but that doesn't mean the iPhone 5 is very resistant against scratches, smashed screens and grubby hands, so we've compiled a list of our favourite cases for the newest Apple smartphone. Over the past few weeks we've put all of the cases on our list through their paces, be it throwing our iPhone at a wall or showing it off while out and about.

The case for the traveller: Mophie Helium
The iPhone 5 might be a great phone, but as all users of the device will know it doesn't boast the most impressive battery life, often struggling to make it through an entire day. That's where Mophie's Juice Pack Helium comes in, an iPhone 5 case complete with a 1,500mAh battery. Ideal for people who travel a lot, the case, once switched on, provides enough power to boost your iPhone's battery back to full. It's not too big and bulky either, measuring 13 percent thinner than the firm's previous iPhone accessories.

The case for the quirky: Thunder Apparel bamboo case
For those after something a little bit quirky, independent clothing retailer Thunder Apparel is selling an iPhone 5 case made out of bamboo. Laser etched with a custom design that makes the case smell just as good as it looks, the case comes edged in a tough, soft-touch polycarbonate material to protect the iPhone against any nasty tumbles. It's not just a great case for the clumsy, as crafted from 100 percent natural wood it's ideal for the environmentally friendly, too.

The case for the businessman: Proporta aluminum and leather flip case
With its aluminum-lined leather flip iPhone 5 case, Proporta has seemingly looked at what businessmen want from a cover and delivered it. The case is one of the most luxurious-feeling on the list, pairing a textured leather front, with aluminum innards and a professional looking pinstripe lining, likely to appeal to business folk. Proporta also claims that the case offers "maximum protection and durability," so it will also appeal to the clumsy amongst you.

The case for the girly: Joules hard case
Joules is best known for its feminine clothing and accessories, and the firm has branched out to bring this image to a range of iPhone 5 cases. We got our mitts on a stripy, pink-accented case, which also proved good at protecting our handset from chips and scratches as well as looking good. Joules' lineup also includes floral and animal print cases, perfect for girly iPhone 5 users.
