We get to grips with the skinny Jelly Bean smartphone

LAS VEGAS: PHONE MAKER Alcatel shocked the crowds at CES in Las Vegas this year with the announcement of its One Touch Idol Ultra smartphone, the firm's first high-end Android handset.

We were pretty impressed with the device too, which boasts a 4.7in HD touchscrem, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and Google's Android 4.1 Jelly Bean mobile operating system, which has been heavily skinned with Alcatel's custom user interface.

Alcatel also claims it's the world's thinnest smartphone at 6.45mm thick, but don't get too excited as it's unlikely to be released in the UK or US. Alcatel told The INQUIRER that its sibling, the One Touch Scribe HD, will be released here in Blighty, but there's no word on availability yet.
