Overall winner: Nexus 7
Having put all three devices to the test, we have to say the clear loser is the Amazon Kindle Fire HD.
Boasting average performance and grating software, the tablet doesn't live up to the standards set by its Ipad Mini and Nexus 7 competition, even if it is cheap.
Past this, picking between the remaining two is fairly difficult. The Ipad Mini is a premium quality tablet that despite shortcomings with its processor and screen is perfect for anyone using a Mac computer.
However, the Nexus 7, is a more powerful option, better suited for users embedded within the Windows PC ecosystem.
That said, for new users not embedded within any ecosystem, we have to say that the Nexus 7 does offer better value for money, costing £100 less than the Ipad Mini while boasting better performance, albeit with slightly less solid build quality.
For this reason we have to give the title of best small tablet to Google's Nexus 7. µ
