The HTC Windows Phone 8X features a 4.3in 720x1280 HD SLCD-2 display, thanks to Windows Phone 8's support for screen resolutions higher than WVGA.
We can't praise Microsoft's change of heart enough, as the screen on the HTC Windows Phone 8X is nothing short of gorgeous. In fact, it puts the Samsung Galaxy S3's AMOLED screen to shame with its extreme colours and great viewing angles, which make for a great experience when gaming or surfing the web on the phone. The display's tiny bezel adds to the experience offered by the phone, making the screen look larger than it actually is.
Our only real gripe is the screen settings. Head over to Settings > Brightness, and you're able to turn off automatic brightness - something we'd recommend doing to get the best from this phone. However, you're then limited to choosing from three options (Low, Medium, High), rather than being able to set the display brightness as you'd want it. Of course, when set to 'High' the display looks ridiculously gorgeous, but we found it so vivid at times it started to give us a bit of a headache.
Again thanks to Microsoft's support for higher specification devices, the HTC Windows Phone 8X handset features a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon processor, which is much more appealing than the 1GHz single-core processor found on the last generation HTC HD7 Windows Phone.
Sure, it doesn't sound quite as impressive as the quad-core processor on the HTC One X, but the performance of the chip is just as good. Thanks to Microsoft's uncomplicated interface, the handset's dual-core CPU offers a very slick all round experience, and unlike with Microsoft's Windows 8 operating system, we found no lag whatsoever when opening apps, browsing the web or playing graphics-heavy games.
What's more, the HTC Windows Phone 8X scored an impressive 11,898 when benchmarked using Antutu. This makes the phone technically speedier than the quad-core Samsung Galaxy S3, which scored 11,884, the HTC One X, which scored 10,829, and the LG Optimus 4X HD, which scored 11,424.
