Apple Iphone 4S Siri video demo

Can’t do everything we want it to

ONE THING that separates the Iphone 4S and the Iphone 4 is Siri, the voice controlled personal assistant, so here we take a look and see what it can and cannot do.

Siri comes with IOS 5, but if you're upgrading from an Iphone 4 or older handset then Siri won't be included. You can ask the talking software questions or tell it to carry out tasks on your Iphone 4S.

The software is very accurate most of the time, but as you'll see in the video it isn't quite perfect. It can do a lot of helpful things if you don't mind talking to your Iphone. The biggest drawback and disappointment at the moment is the lack of location based services here in the UK. µ

"I haven't tried it but it doesn't work"

Yes, Stuart, it does work in the car. Yes, it does work outside. I know, because I have a 4S and I have used Siri successfully in both these situations.

Yes, it does have limitations - it won’t work without a network signal, but even a weak GPRS is enough (though you have to wait a few seconds more for the response).

But for being read and answering text messages in the car, it's great. The voice recognition is so much better than anything I've encountered before that you forgive the mistakes (both it and you will learn how to work better together over time).

Is this disruptive technology? If not, it feels pretty damned close - I'm already frustrated that I can't use it on my main desktop machine.

Typically bad

As usual these voice systems don't work when in a car or outside.

I really don't know why they bother with these things as 9 times out of 10 they get it wrong.

Can't be better or worse than the Google System of course.
