AS TIME GOES BY the tablet market just keeps on growing, with devices appearing in all shapes and sizes from just about every manufacturer you can think of. Since Apple launched the original Ipad, countless tablets have hit the shelves with the aim of knocking it off the top spot.
We're going to take a look at three of the big name, top-end devices including Apple's second generation Ipad and two of its big rivals, the HP Touchpad and Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1, to see how they fare against each other.
Displays and Weights
Two of the tablets in this trio have a 9.7in screen, the Touchpad and Ipad 2, while the Galaxy Tab offers a little bit of extra real estate at 10.1in. Resolutions sit at 1024x768 for the 9.7in tablets and 1280x800 for the 10.1in.
All three have decent screens with each displaying a crisp and clear picture. The Touchpad suffers from a lack of brightness and the Galaxy Tab is difficult to view in bright sunlight, meaning that the Ipad 2 wins in this area with its stunning display.
Size-wise the Ipad 2 and Galaxy Tab are neither here nor there, with the latter only 0.2mm thinner and 36g lighter at 8.8mm and 565g. They are the lightest and thinnest tablets in their class. Unfortunately the HP Touchpad needs to go on a crash diet to compete and is rather bulky at 13.7mm and 740g. If this is important to you, then you can forget about the Touchpad.

The author really needs to do some research before writing his articles. Although I do enjoy reading fiction.
I guess Samsung must be inadated with this problem hence my email answered, but never followed up. So I rang and finally moved a step closer to solving this "Oilslick" problem
All I have to do is simply take the unit into a retailer near me and they will send it off for inspection. Customer servce did reconize the problem as "Newton Rings" (after a few line transfers)
Great...I thought however, I wish I could feel a sense of relief but it seems all I have to look forward to is waiting for weeks of repairs and replacements and no closer to using a gift that I was so happy about receiving.
I just wish Samsung could have prevented this.
Samsung have finally responded to the fault with the 10.1 with the oil slick aka 'newton rings'
http://www.yugatech.com/blog/personal-computing/samsung-tablets-hit-with-oil-slick-issues/
but dont get too excited, they just tell you to'call customer service'.
Anyway mught be of some use to people wondering what to do about the problem. At least shows they've aknowledged it and might do something about it if you call and kick up a fuss...
Am also experiencing the infamous 'oil slick' fault on my galazy tab 10.1.
As below I think reviews accross the web have been poor and clearly not thorough enough to show up all the faults in this product. A quick look at the forums will show just how many are having issues with it.
I've made a video of the oil slick issue:

Anyone at the inquirer care to respond?
my galaxy is rubbish and slow. taking it back tomorrow had enough of it crashing. going to get a transformer instead as that seems the other 'best' droidtab. starting to wonder why reviewers seem to have ignored all of the issues which are now coming out so heavily from the users in forums and comments. arnt we meant to rely on these so called experts for a reliable opiinion of how products are actually working?!
As below, my galaxy tab randomly becomes unresponsive for 5-10 seconds on a regular basis. No update has fixed this and it cmopletely ruins the user experience.
Hi all, I too have been suffering with what appears to be some kind of 'touchbug'. The screen is totally unresponsive at times, if not, it is very slow. The whole system seems to be laggin, tbh. I'm really upset about it as the reviews have been great but I am now seeing this problem cropping up all over the place. :(
After I received my beautiful Samsung Galaxy 10.1 for my birthday, I began to read all the hype surrounding it and thought what a perfect gift.
After having it for about a week I started to noticed a very irritating problem...at times the touch screen will become unresponsive, like my fingers glide over the screen and nothing happens. Is this because my greasy fingers build up a film on the screen and it can not react? Anyone got any answers?
when anyone purchases an Hp touchpad they automatically receive 50GB of cloud storage on Box.net for LIFE!!!! And it's accesssible from any web based platform
A 25 cm screen is still almost 30% shorter in each direction than a standard DIN A4 paper sheet and the resolution of these screens is just lousy.
I suggest to wait until the end of the year when Samsung will bring its new screens onto the market. They will still be too small (25 cm). But at least their resolution reaches 85 µm, which is 2.5 times the resolution of the current 25-cm screens and the same of a cheap printer.
Today's screens are fine to read a science fiction novel. For that purpose they are just too expensive.
