Nvidia Quad SLI 7950 driver unleashed

Early INQpression Not that stable on the INQ gaming testbed
Thu Jul 20 2006, 17:04
NVIDIA just released its first Quad SLI driver for 7950 GX2 cards. We have been waiting for this baby for a long time. Nvidia said that it will have this driver by the end of the summer but it turns out that it managed to have it a little bit earlier.

We instantly went on the SLIzone site and downloaded the driver and tried it in Asus M2N32 SLI Deluxe board that we are reviewing at press time, an Athlon FX 62 and two Nvidia 7950 GX2 cards one from Gainward and one from Leadtek.

The driver recognizes the cards and learns that we have two cards in the system. It is faster, it will run Quake 4 at 160 FPS at 1280x1024 while the single 7950 GX2 can get 140 FPS at the same settings. We also learned that there will be one more driver that will increase the performance but a little bit later, next week probably.

We ran Quake, Doom, 3Dmark05 and 06 but as quickly as we could, but we had casual crashing in every test. Its still not stable even though our board is listed as a supported piece of hardware.

Things will get better - we hope - and we will try to investigate more on it. The driver is here so give it a try if you have two cards, maybe it will work better in your machine. ?
