Broadband comparison site panned

First INQpressions Top 10 Broadband
Tuesday, 23 January 2007, 09:44
YESTERDAY, WE WROTE ABOUT a new site that claimed to offer a guide to the best broadband services in different areas of the UK here.

Here are our readers' First INQpressions:

Subject: Ugh... broadband comparison site - my arse.

Try some out-in-the-sticks postcodes... the answers are the same everytime. Even though many of the ISPs listed can't provide service there.

Dig deeper into whois and you'll find the company is simply a referral marketing company aiming to make money from link referrals.

Regards,
Paul

What a useless site.

Put my postcode in and was offered BT. Which doesn't operate in my area.

Who's backed this web site? BT is suspect.

Nice idea, fails miserably.

Suggest's that both NTL and Telewest can provide us with the combined package, there is no cable in our road, there never will be cable in our road. :/

Subject: top 10 broadband is crap

They neglect to include the price of "other services" that are bundled.. so some of the services (lets say 8 meg 2g transfers for 6.50) cost nearly 20 quid. or 27 quid if you want to view newsgroups. 6.5 quote, 27 actual (plus s&h of the "free" modem)

and since atdmt.com is block'd (resolved to localhost rather) on my network then the site doesnt work all that well..

Probably one of the other poor points is that the serivce I get isnt even priced correctly on the website..

contract terms are listed for xx months (say 12) but the offer listed is good for the first, or first 3, or first 6 months..

It's twaddle.

But I guess if someone can make money out of rip-off suppliers then it's a good thing.

"Alex Buttle" obviously only has one thing on his mind and that is price.

I would welcome this site, if it actually asked you a sensible question, such as "are you a heavy user", but it doesnt, that NO 1. offer from BT would cost me a small fortune as 2GB wouldnt last a week and the rest would be chargable.

Anyone with a family will get a shocking bill once their kids have used the net for a while. This website is essentially useless for all but the tightest or lowest users out there.

This website is the biggest load of tosh ever. Considering that they only appear to have 13 providers listed at all - who probably put a few pennies into the running of the site - makes the results anything but reliable.

The postcode thingy obviously is guff too. It's coming up with 8Gb and 24Gb offerings, when I can only get 1Mb round here!

I'm also guessing it doesn't take reliability into consideration, nor customer support or the plethora of other conditions that make an ISP. BT and AOhell at the top? Pah!

I'll stick to adslguide.org.uk thanks.
