THE APPLE TABLET is unlikely to see the light of day until next year, despite Apple fanzines claiming it will be in the shops by October.
The latest version of the Apple Newton has been a leading feature of the Apple press for some months now with the various titles producing mock-ups to get their readers all worked up.
In August there is a bit of shortage of news because anyone with any sense is on a beach right now. Since Princess Di is not still alive to take her top off outside Clarence House the Apple Tablet seems to have filled the gap.
By getting one and one to equal three most fanboys have pointed to Apple's traditional September press event as the likely launch point for this new product.
Now former MacWorld Editor at Large Jim Dalrymple seems to have poured cold water on thoughts that the Tablet will come this year. According to The Loop, his sources are telling him that the tablet will remain under wraps until sometime in 2010.
September will probably be filled with some uninteresting drivel about music and perhaps another flavour of Ipod. Only fanboys will cheer that one.
Dalrymple has some good sources at Apple so it is likely that the story is true. The question is why are there so many stories appearing in the Apple press about a bit of vapourware, which, if it exists, will not be released until next year?
Apple is in a win-win situation, both leaking information and not having to provide the gizmo. It creates hysteria among fanboys and then has the pleasure of making them wait. When the gadget finally hits the shops fanboys buy it because of the expectation rather than the feeling that it will meet any actual needs.
Common sense says that a tablet will not do well, they never do, unless Apple can use every marketing trick in the book to make it appear viable. Our guess is that it is briefing journalists on one hand, waiting until the rumours reach fever pitch and then denying them. Apple hacks know this, but need the copy in silly season. µ
Apple products is agood products if their products did not contain Intel products. Apple would be reluctant using Intel products with their best seller goods. I'm happy if SpIntel is disappointing with Apple's hardware without Intel
has written yet another silly season article.
I can rely on lots of Apple hackery from Mr. Farrell. He might not seem to like Apple very much, but he seems to be the source of the majority of UK articles on the subject.
And a self-promoting blogger attempts to get some clicks by commenting on his article.
i don't get it how can you write so much about one thing that it's not gonna happen this year. can't you just save us from reading through that BS and get to the point?
I don't think you can call something that hasn't been announced by any company as "vaporware". This whole thing is only just rumors, and almost by definition rumors don't exist. Your headlines are stretching a bit too far.
nice dig on Princess Di. Shows the quality of your person.
Wtf ? Slating Princess Di ? U fucking prick
What possessed you to portray Princess Di negatively? You ( the inq ) have been my homepage for a lot longer than I care to remember but from this moment I will never return to these pages ever again.

"The latest version of the Apple Newton"
Dear oh dear... more Apple hateboi desperation... are you sure it's not a version of the Zune?
Nick, did Steve Jobs scare your mother or something, or are you now taking the same crazy pills as the Inquirer's Charlie?
Mate, your "articles" aren't news, they're just drivel.
After all, there is one doing quite well already: the Kindle is sort of half of what one expects from a Tablet. The other half is the iPhone/iPod Touch, actually.
Farrell, are you a writer by trade? Even the Apple-loving hacks can spell "drivel", probably without a spell checker, too. Seriously, who is bloody editing this rag?
As has been pointed out, the author doesn't know what 'vapourware' is. I bet he doesn't know what a hacker is either. Maybe he is simply in the wrong field. Try reporting on the traffic.
You're probably right about the tablet not coming out this year. Yet you being right falls completely short of excusing your hateful, trolling and arrogant writing. Can we expect to see a video of you mico-waving a kitten while in the near future?
Can we, actually? I've never seen that.
and that's a big "if", I would say it is likely going to be positioned at the artists that like Macs.
I bought my Toshiba tablet convertible for my business, so clients could sign forms without killing trees, and then found that it's ideal for Photoshop.
Considering Apples rabid artist fanbase, this could be a good niche market for them. If they can make others see a use for it too, then they could have a very popular product.
