THE LATEST Microsoft advert attacking Apple has again got the fanboys' knickers in a twist.
It shows a kid trying to find a laptop on which he can play games. Not surprisingly he can't find anything he wants to play. This is because, Apple's relationship with the gaming industry is similar to that of Microsoft's connections with the telephone market.
This is a no brainer advert as far as we are concerned and really not even an Apple fanboy can admit that that there are games worth playing on the machines. Linux fanboys can at least say their machines are for serious stuff, Apple on the other hand can really only boast about a slither of office related applications.
So what was the Apple kool aid drinking press going to say about this advert. Looking at the various articles it seems that they focused on a line in the advert which says that Macs don't have a Blu-ray player.
Blu-ray may not be a big driver to buy any hardware at the moment and there are few games that are coming out on the format. But if you look at the comments from the various columns from the US it looks like this was the only thing the advert said. Instead of asking the question, why doesn't Apple care about the games industry, it focuses on the one part of the advert which is truly unimportant.
It is high time that editors really stopped staff writing on behalf of the Apple press office. It is making their credibility sink really low. µ
He he. Stupid Apple fanboys.
Fat chance that those hacks would give up their shiny new Apple toys that they got for writing such biased articles.
I don't own a Mac, but last I checked they ran Windows just fine. Which means they can run Windows software. Which means they can run games.
You don't have to be a fanboy to see that MS's marketing is misleading (although no more so than the average Apple advert).
Badpool, Just because you or I might be able or willing to install Windows on mac hardware doesn't mean the average user is going to do that. The MS adds are a direct attempt to get the best buy shopper or Jane Smith who works in your office and knows how to open word buying PCs with MS software instead of Mac. That user wants an out of the box solution. If that includes games right now your best option is a Microsoft PC not a Mac OS based PC.
No they can't. Not with 9600GT's.
They do give you the option to upgrade to 4850 while buying an iMac. But the topmost config costs $3400. I could get a super powerful desktop replacement for $2400, or get an ultra high end nehalem GTX295 quad SLI system for running Crysis at full res at full settings.
This is why you should not comment from the pub.
1. Why would you spend the premium on a mac and then install windows?
2. As the guy above me is saying why get a mac that is so rigid, when you can buy a PC and customize? (e.g. Benchmarks show which GPU series will get the most mileage out of some genres or particular games).
3. For once, these ads are not misleading. Real PCs and Real PC prices the only problem is most people don't have a clue what RAM is or why someone want 4 'gegabites' of it.

Researched and everything!
Yes I drink the kool-aid and sadly enough, this article is 100% correct. Spot on. I think the only reason there are any games to play on the Mac is mostly due to Blizzard, id, and some rogue EA guy that spits out random titles that are mac compatible.
Then again you could put Windows on a Mac and . . . .
First off the little kid in the comercal probably really wants a Wii of some other kiddie console to play on.
While I admit Apple does not have the vast library of games available for the OS X platform there are some good ones. If you go to Apples web site and find their games area you will see there are currently listed about 111 games for OS X including games like Call of Duty World at War and Command and Conquer Red Alert 3, many more than you will find for Linux. Then there is always World of Warcrack and Starcraft 2 will be released at the same time for Mac.
Why do all you Apple fanbots all hate M$ so bad, but when your holy fruit is questioned about gaming, you always say,"You can install Windows on a Mac!" It seems the fruit followers think that Apple's holy logo will make XP/Vista perform miracles thus making M$ Windows perfect like OSX! WOW! All because Windows is on a Mac!
Why would you buy an iMac to play games? The video cards are weak and are not upgradable. For the money you will spend on an imac you can build a very nice gaming rig from Newegg that is upgradable for many years.
I own a 24in iMac and it sucks for gaming. Yes I can play games but at lower settings and manually adding ATI drivers because Apple's drivers suck.(But most fanbots don't know how to manually configure a driver anyway).
Mac can't find a hole. What the hell do you think they've been doing these past years?
Naaa. The only game that I re-call seeing was WOW on Mac and that’s it - ohh yeah Simcity maybe another one. I mean. If you pay an arm and a leg for a Mac so what’s the point of using WinXP/Vista on a MAC? That Q is for the fanboys. Wana play games with all of the eye candy on? Then do yourself a favor and buy/build a PC and walla! Or just keep playing combat on your Mac! LOL jeje
I think Rooster Teeth said it best years ago:
http://rvb.roosterteeth.com/archive/?id=118
David and Goliath! Oh, no it's Rocky and Bullwinkle. No, maybe it Larry, Moe, and Curly but curly retired.
Oh never mind, 37.2 people actually care and three of them are dead.
1) Mac Fanbois shouldn't make themselfs such easy targets.
2)[more importantly] you SHOULD NOT have to buy a copy of windows to install on a mac to play games. The OS cannot natively play games and that means a Mac cannot play games. I would like to see someone say that they can, because it isn't the mac that is playing the games, it is the useless copy of windows you picked up to play games. BTW a much cheaper computer would have played them. If your going to install windows on a mac, wouldn't you rather just buy a PC? I've seen hacks to install OSX on a PC. Why not just buy OSX and install it on your PC?
You know it really is a shame that MS doesn't have a devoted, loyal following. Calling us Fanboys your jealous way of saying. "I'm poor, uneducated and willing to accept the lowest manufactured software there is". And yes Mac's do play games. "I am 5 and I'm a PC" what kind of advert is that? Windows Vista, designed for the undeveloped mind!
Heh, TheInq should add a "Nick F vs Apple" section.
I'm subjected to a ratio of 7:1 advertisements for apple than windows. I dislike the ads don't complain, I just live with it. I strongly encourage the apple fanboys who dislike Microsoft to just deal with it, like the 80% of everyone else.
(stomps foot on floor)Mac's do play games. "I am 5 and I'm a Mac".
Why did MS focus on the lack of Blu-Ray and not the gamer side?
Easy. They don't want the game industry to realize it's missing out on a large number of customers by only supporting Winblows. (They might wake up and start porting to OS-X or God forbid, Nix) OMG they might also stop using the bloated not the best on the streets "Almost Direct-X".
By focusing on the lack of Blu-ray, It puts the "problem" in Apple's ballpark.
HEY MS! Crackbox-360 doesn't do Blu-ray either.
A Bentley won't win the Indy 500, but that doesn't mean that it's a worthless pile of junk.
Apple has always been miserly in the area of video card support, presumably because it wants total control over the fit and finish of its OS X.
I like Macs and use them daily, but I have no general problem with the third ad so long as its limited to procuring a gaming PC. Comments like "Macs are more about aesthetics than pure computing power" are just cheap shots that have been proven false so many times, it's unworthy of further comment.
"...it's unworthy of further comment."
Yet you still neet to comment. :)
I won't install Vista on MY PC, left alone a MAC.
I think the problem with mac fanbois is that their E-penis is very tiny making them insignificant in the gaming world. I think they all have small mans syndrome. They think they are the best because they are compensating for their lack of E-Penis(I think we should drop the E making it -Penis for them). they can't measure up to our faster ram(macs use DDR2-667), lack of customization, and lack of individuality. All macs look the same!! If M$ put something out like a mac it would be called garbage and not sell, but apple makes it and now it's "trendy"
my E-penis is backed by: Phenom II X3 720@3.6Ghz, 4gb DDR2-1066, Asus M2N32-SLIdeluxe, PNY 8800GT SLi
Thing about my computer is that if I want to change anything in it, I don't void my warrenty
MS: You started it.
Apple: Oh Vista, are you crashing again?
MS: Seriously dude, if you hadn't picked on me, I would be doing this.
Apple: Oh Vista, are you Ok? My smug gring is doing nicely
MS: WTF dude? We were getting along so nicely ignoring each other. Nice work in 'Hes just not that into you' by the way.
that guy (author of the article you linked) is what I call unprofessional. his comparison id fully of holes and was indeed pointed out buy his readers, check his "update"
also Dell is just as gready as apple except they dont have the "cool" factor. so i dont see why they are being brought into the argument. these machines are clearly workstantions, not servers, so most pro-Pc argument is that you can build your own windows based machine for a lot cheaper, whereas you cant with apple
For anyone who makes the argument that the Blu-Ray factor is not fair issue to bring up because Apple does not have a Blu-Ray option, that is exactly the point. St. Steve himself said that dealing with the licensing hassles and fees of Blu-Ray were not worth it, and thus Apples do not have Blu-Ray.
Why is this relevant? Well, I really don't like the idea that because Steve Jobs doesn't feel like dealing with the hassle of including an increasingly common feature, I can't own it.
Then again, this is the same company who took the numeric keypad off of their standard iMac keyboard because they decided (and this is right from my Apple Rep) that numeric keypads are only for business use, and we don't need to use our home systems for business, and thus we do not need the keypad. When I argued that I used mine all the time, my rep actually argued with me and told me that they are certain people don't actually need it, and if I looked at how often I used it, I would find it is not very often.
Apparently Apple knows what I need and use more than I do.
Special Olympics showdown.
Does Mac OS X supports SLI or Crossfire? Sorry for the Q but I tried to google it but nothing came (or maybe I missed something) - Just wondering cuz a friend of mine was asking. Anyway I told my friend to BUY a PC (Sorry Steve/Apple). Jeje
There's nothing intrinsic to OS X which prevents games running. Ask Cartoon Network what platforms their new MMORPG runs on.
"You can't upgrade the graphics in most Macs!"
You can't upgrade the graphics in any games console either, but I don't see games console owners whining. The days when graphics were all that mattered in games are long gone.
"You can't buy games for Macs!"
Most major casual game titles are available for Macs. (Indeed, any game developed in Flash, Director, Unity or other similar cross-platform tools will run just fine on Macs.)
OS X sales often provide more than 50% of revenue. Windows' market share figures invariably include the umpteen millions of PCs sitting unused in offices for 16 hours each working day. Mac sales tend to be primarily to consumers, so a far greater proportion of Macs are in homes. Any indie or casual game developer will usually target both OS X and Windows.
Graphics cards are increasingly released with beta-grade drivers. Games developers are tired of acting as free QA for the likes of ATI, Intel and NVidia. Supporting these high-end games is expensive and offers very poor ROI. Low / mid-budget games are a far more sensible proposition.
High-end Windows games are now little more than a niche market. Few developers ever make money from it and most of those who do are also in the business of selling their game engines. (ID, Unreal, etc.)
Microsoft are a technology company. Technology is what they *do*. They began by selling development tools. They still do. Windows has been successful primarily because Microsoft's development tools are so good. (Even MS Office supports a swathe of development tools. OpenOffice isn't even playing the same *game*, let alone in the same league.)
Apple are a *design* company. They'd really prefer not to have to deal with hairy, beardy programmers. If it were possible to build software for Macs entirely using artists, Steve Jobs would probably wet himself with joy. Technology is important only because it enables the execution of their designs.
Games are an after-market product. Like fluffy dice for cars. They have no place in Apple's corporate remit.

Utterly amazing! This is precisely why Apple has less than 2% market share worldwide. Why have a machine that is all work and no play? If I am spending $1000 + USD on a computer, it had better be able to run games as well as work stuff. Man, you just come across as the wrinkled, zoot-suit wearing, old playa trying to pick up the young chicks. No body thinks you are cool, except for yourself and a couple of desperate beasties.
I see you ask, its a good question.
I am also still wondering why they dont compete with MS to provide a multiplatform PC compatible OS.
They have always overpriced their gear and the excuses for that have turned into an immodest myth of superiority.
But it also effectively forced them to make a decision in the eighties not to compete with MS toe to toe in the PC market because they could not out price them.
To survive they looked for niche markets where the superiority angle would find willing customers and they found them among academics and have been avoiding MS turf ever since, maybe because they have come to feed on not being MS, defining themselves by their competitor rather than moving and shaking in their own right.
The iPod and iPhone succeeded because they were fashionable, not because they were superior, but fashion is a fickel friend.
Because of their low place on the financial pecking order they never made enough money before these devices began to sell to actually develope a PC OS or multiplatform OS nor did they have enough market share to attract games developers to their isolationist OS.
It strikes me there was no conscious decision to avoid gaming they just didnt make the grade. I expect the iPhone to attract games apps but I cant see anything as changed re iMac or OSX market share. Gamers still only have one choice and it aint a Mac.
I'll grant you that Windows runs many many more games than OS X, and I'll grant you that Linux is for serious stuff.
However, it kind of ruins the credibility of THIS review to imply that OS X isn't for serious stuff, or that you can't run games on a Mac even if you need to boot into XP/Vista to play most of them.
mac cant be upgraded.
you have to buy a new mac for that.
PC's rule. Just the way it is kiddies.
Hey Darby, using the 'I can run XP on a MAC' cop-out just brings it back to the reality that PC users have known since Apple gave up and joined PC. That's the point of the ad.
MAC IS A PC !! An Expensive one!
Now sell me the OS so I don't have to buy the CRAP hardware. The I can dual boot and play games and rip HD-DVDs, BRs and a myriad of other things Apple doesn't want me to do on my PCs. Then I can also boot into OSX for the girlfriend who, like many people, wants an appliance with an on/off switch not a computer (not all women are like that, it's just taking time to teach some ;) ). And I can take the savings and buy games, or go see/buy a season of movies, or heck go on a Ski vacation.
OSX is nice, I'd love to have it share space on my Hard-Drive instead of a separate rig, but I have no need for toys masquerading as 'cutting-edge', especially as we head to the OpenCL / Computer Shader future when Apple will try to explain why you didn't need the extra Stream processors or Bandwidth, because the GF9400 they gave you was good enough, and hot enough, and dang it Fanbois like it.... or claim to.
Realities: OSX gaming SUCKS ! MACs are Expensive ! Windows Kinda sucks sometimes ! Linux can be a pain at times ! PCs are as expensive as you want them to be including the netbooks that can run OSX all the way to Voodoo PC rigs with custom paint and angel tear water cooling. True Enthusiasts want to chose that balance not be forced into a choice to prop-up overpriced Fruity hardware.
I know when I build a new PC what parts I want for it and build it to spec, knowing that I want it for gaming and some minor work stuff.
As for people who buy Macs they probably have an idea as to what they want out of it. Just because there aren't loads of games as compared to the PC doesn't make it less appealing to the MAC buyer. They probably have some specific use in mind. Each to their own in the end of the day.
Wow, my Audi Quattro costs a lot more than the Landy Defender I bought for off-roading. Strangely enough both cars where bought for specific purposes and I don't get stressed that my nice expensive Audi doesn't do green-laneing very well.
If you're after a gaming rig then obviously buying a Mac is a silly idea because its not designed to be one!.
I have a Mac mini for work, a mini as a media centre, a Xbox360 for games and a HP PC as a VMWare server, ie I use appropriate technologies for the results I want and don't expect my A4 to be able to drive through fields and streams and survive.
What is this nonsense that a mac can't be upgraded i just got my octo 2.26 Mac Pro and i can tell you i can shove 4 SAS Hard drives into it.
Change the Optical drives and the GPU. CPU is upgradeable as is the memory and i have 8 dimm slots so i don't see were i am lacking on upgradeability.
comparing an audi to a MAC,,,?? LOL if that was true your audi would fall into pieces in the highway,,,audi doesnt need to delete msgs and lie that cars sell by themselves
go figure a car that ask you where to drive..remember steve when you claimed in yur twisted world..apple invented 64bit first..APPLE need to lie to sell period!!
i m an apple car ..drive just 4 blocks cos is not elegant.
only sheeps buy apple products
are you saying macs wont rust because of there all aluminum frame?
The AMD Athlon 64 did hit the market first but the PPC G5 Powermac was the first complete package to hit the market as a 64 bit workstation. There was no WIndows 64 Bit edition for about a year after the Athlon 64 if i remember correctly.
Though the statement first 64 bit chip would be false, fist 64 bit personal computer is accurate.
So wait, you can upgrade your mac pro, but how much did that cost you? $3000+ for a base confriguration? You do realise that just feeds into the argument that Macs are overpriced.
Yes! You can upgrade your Mac.. provided you buy a $3000+ workstation that weighs about 60 lbs. That's a pretty ridiculous response. The $1400-$2600 iMacs, well those can's be upgraded because they are the barebones entry level systems. If you want the same level of upgradeability to can get from a $600 Windows system, you just HAVE to spend the 3k, that's simple enough.
I don't know how much money you have in your bank, but I don't have the means to drop 3 grand just so that when I want a little faster processor I don't have to also buy a new screen, and motherboard, and hard drive etc.
Just shy of £4000 got me 12 GB DDR3, 2 quad Xeon “Nehalem”, and 4 Seagate 15k 460GB hard drives.
Unfortunately there is no computer to compare it to as you can't buy a Xeon “Nehalem” from another system builder yet, and as was the case with the last gen MacPro the likes of Dell worked out £800 more expensive.
@Max:
"Why would you spend the premium on a mac and then install windows?"
To play games on a pretty-looking machine.
"As the guy above me is saying why get a mac that is so rigid, when you can buy a PC and customize?"
Ah, now we're getting somewhere. So if I go to my local retailer, pick up a copy of the latest and greatest Windows, can I then play games? Of course not. I need a PC to install it on, so we're back to square one (ie. installing Windows, which is something average users cannot do). What MS actually wants us to do is buy a PC with Windows installed on it. In other words, my point is that Windows != Windows PC. Moreover, Windows PC != Gaming PC.
"For once, these ads are not misleading."
As I have just demonstrated, they definitely are. Windows-based PCs are not necessarily capable of gaming, and Windows, as-is, is capable of nothing.
I have an monster gaming PC at home...built it myself water cooled quad-core 8GB RAM over pair of velociraptors in RAID 0 a 260GTX also water cooled...three samsung 22inch LCD monitors (my main one is the new 120HZ model)...very expensive hobby plays games beautifully plays movies music I do a bit of everything on it. This can be done on a Mac obviously not exactly like it and possibly for more or less $.
I may get a new aluminum body Macbook and upgrade the memory and hdd myself - much cheaper that way. I got the money now before I get married so f-it right? I love PCs (desktops) but I like Apple's laptop design - and resale value. I'm also interested in learning the OS from a power user perspective since I work in IT and have to support them from time to time.
My problem is I don't want to be associated with the dead-heads that think Macs are inherently better like some master computer race or some shit. The whole concept of being a switcher is just gay...<pun Man this all started when I bought that 1st gen iPod touch...next thing you know I bought the iPhone 3G on launch day no less...now I'm looking to get a Macbook...wait does this mean I'm gay?....ohhhhnooooooos! </pun
Customer "can I play PC games on a Mac?
Store "Well no but you can play some of them if you also install Windows on the Mac!"
Customer "So I pay $*000 for the Mac and then add on $*00 for Windows too?
Store "Yes Sir"
Customer "Hmm so why dont I just buy the $*00 PC with Bluray instead saving time and money?"
Store "Errr well....Macs look cool and...er..stuff!"
I don't own a Mac and never will.
I have had ample experience with the fruit and I say no thank you.
I can not stand OS X, it is for simpletons, old people, and young children. It is locked down and restricted, the menu and windowing system blows and makes navigating a nightmare.
Pretty much anyone that is afraid to touch a real computer that has Linux or Xp on it will use the fruit. Yeah not even mentioning Vista because that is a peice of garbage as well, MS attempt at stealing fruit people = FAIL.
OSX and Vista are worst OS ever, having said this i will not pay almost double for fruit that i can get for cheaper with meat and potato flavours.
Mutitouch, ha, laughable, how about a f**king mouse. Who the f**ck uses a touchpad, are you serious about your Internetz... well obviously not. ;)
I hate all you fanbois equally, why don't you try and make an educated decision, research your opinion then post.
The only reason the fruit is popular is because it gives the stupid people in this world some worth and a false sense of belonging. You now officially belong to an exclusive club of brain dead POD people.
/\/\ Mo-mo-mo-monster troll /\/\
It is only fair. The Apple comercial flat out insults MS/Linux PC users.
The Pro PC comercials don't even go that far. They point out some truths about price and power of units available. Points which I agree on.
Persoanlly, I would like to add a Apple PC into my group of computers, but I never quite have enough saved up when I consider the hardware I'm getting. A pretty box has never really been important to me; plain was always fine.
.....stick it in a generic OEM laptop case and no one would pay more than $400 for it.
Same kind of goes for the desktops.
I'm not trying to compare your Mac Pro to anything. Someone said that you cannot upgrade a Mac, and your response was that you certainly can, if it is a MacPro, so my message was that you had to pay a pretty high price in order to be able to upgrade in a Mac, whereas with a PC, any PC in a standard case can be upgraded, regardless of price point.
As i am sure you know most desktops can be upgraded but in the windows world there are products that compete with the Apple counterparts.
The iMac competes with other all in one computers and they are just as limited as the iMac in upgradeability the same goes for the Mini, you can change its CPU, Hard Drive, Ram, and Optical drive the same as any other SFF computers with the motherboard being the only non user upgradable part as is the norm with SFF systems.
To say a mac is not upgradable is a silly argument as for the class of the machine there as upgradable as there counterparts, and for apple laptops there the same as every other laptop, you can change the Ram and the hard drive, though usually hard drive upgrades are a lucky dip depending on manufacturer.
What you will be going for is that mysterious midi tower mac that would be a desktop version of the mac pro. Unfortunately Apple do not see this as a market they wish to enter and how many would choose a £800 midi tower over a £800 all in one, even if the midi tower is more powerful most will go with the all in one because people outside gaming tend to buy a new computer every 3-5 years than try upgrading it.
The people that do upgrade tend to be in ether the gaming market or the professional market. As i am in the professional market i look for a solid workstation that can tick the boxes, i want lots of fast stable storage, Fast ECC ram and lots of it, Xeon processors(currently), Low noise and low power consumption and a workstation GPU. With the Mac Pro i currently only lack the Workstation GPU as the current Quadro is a bit crusty though down the line i will be able to get one or two since Snow leopard can use the 2nd like a super fast media CPU.
The other market for mass upgrades just would not look at a system builder unless its alienware, having been into gaming PC's for a while as a hobby i can tell you its very fickle. I like Giga-byte motherboards but i get screamed at that Giga-byte are the noobz and asus, abit, msi, ect ect are 1337 imba. And so be it's very fun having all this choice to put to gether the best gaming computer with fancy water cooling and overclocking.
Though that does not sound like Apples customer base, Apple caters for programmers, web developers/designers, video and sound production at the workstation and 3D modeling if you like Maya. On the consumer end were looking at casual gamers (Sims, Spore, and WoW) which is taken care of, and these customers also send e-mails, write Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, do a little eBay shopping and dabble with there home movies and pictures or let there kids spend all night IM'ing mr i love you so much honest i am 16.
My point is and i know i have rambled i kinda like rambling its fun, Apple just don't cater for the FPS gamers that want Quad SLi and water-cooled CPU's you know the current iMac plays WoW at 100FPs, and Spore and The Sims 2 in the high 80s with all settings maxed. And its unlikely that when the next Cysis comes out needing quad SLi next gen Geforce OC and water cooled to hit 30fps that these people will even blink at it.
There are 4 big platforms out there and they each preform well with what they do.
Solaris runs without fail but is boring.
Mac OS has a double life of being a easy to use system for home users wanting to do nothing much, to a very robust and powerful tool that has all the benifits of Linux and some of the benefits of Solaris with a pretty face to hide the business side when you are not working.
Windows rules the enterprise and the gaming market, nothing else gives you the same choice of hardware and gaming support. It scales well from cheep as chips Dell order us by the 1000 for your offices to the my GPU is 0.002 FPS faster than yours because i froze it with liquid nitrogen. And with the abundance of software to rival that of even linux pretty much ever base is covered though you pay for this with Virus, worms, Spyware and all sorts of other nasties because Microsoft dare not upset its enterprise clients that do not want to upgrade there old Dos batch files.
And finally Linux, the does no evil but never quite gets there. Excellent for running your server but does not understand installing hardware and software should not require leaving the GUI and the GUI does not need 100 redundant ways to accomplish one task.
Jeri, you say no PC integrator is offering the Nehalem right now, yet I can order one, the X800 series, from HP even with the W5580 which is not offered by Apple. You can also get it with SAS drives, another feature not an option on the MacPro. You might remember HP, they were the same vendor featured in the other M$ ads.
So your point was what again?
Wanna talk workstations (which is what the MacPro is) then talk with those who use them, once again, like I said, you can make a PC as expensive as a Mac if you want to.
I often used to buy Tyan boards when making my new editing rigs. Now it's not worth my time, but I could still do it if I wanted to. Once again, that's the difference, choice.
It used to be if you bought apple hardware you were stuck with one OS Apple's, now it's flipped it's role where if you want to use the Apple OS you're (supposed to be) stuck with just one PC Vendor, Apple.
Once again most of you are arguing as if the only PC options were DELL and M$. There reality is that it's about the OS, and it's a nice tool for the right job, but it's not magical, and just like Apple exagerated their 'best fits' with their switch ads, M$ is equally exagaerating their best fits, in this case gaming and BluRay.
Whether you appreciate that difference or not is the same as whether someone like myself appreciates the value of the crap bundled software of either OS they both play up for editing your memories. Would be a valuable to me as bundling OpenOffice. Just like not knowing your vulnerabilities cuts both ways as the PWN to OWN contest keeps showing, but means little to me when deciding on an editing rig, or gaming rig, or on my Ubuntu box.
The Genius about this ad is in simply doing better than before which itself wasn't hard considering what came before it; and actually targeting those who don't care about either camp, not mainly pleasing the fanbois or the ad critics (oooh so creative!).
Even if it's a guided hand, the concept of just letting them chose sets up a scenario people can test themselves in store, which is just the result you would want from such a campaign.
Apple is just greedy version of Microsoft... Much much greedy.
Stop lying to yourself, you got ripped off!
i just love annoying fanboys. hihi
Good grief, the winblows Fanbois are out in force today.
Mac + PS3 = fine for me. Covers all the bases.
But then again, I'm smarter and richer than you M$ Fanbois, moaning that "PC's are xx% cheaper than Macs, more powerful per $$" etc etc. I can afford one, and the stress-free life it entails - I spend most of my working life fixing/protecting bloody XP/Vista afterall. And I have the PS3 when I want the HD eye-candy & loud noises.
So frankly...you can bleat all you want. I just don't care. It's almost comical.
For those who say there's no need to install Windows on Mac - in my case that's b*ll*cks. It saves me carrying two laptops around because I fix both Macs and PC's for a living. They have their strengths and weaknesses and unlike many I'm a fan of both. I prefer my video edits using Final Cut, Ableton for audio, surfing , most other apps and utilities with XP and for a HTPC Vista Media Center.
I wouldn't advise at all playing GPU intensive games one of the latest Unibody Macbook Pro running boot camp unless you have it sitting on a Laptop cooler like my Zalman. Boot Camped running the 9600GT even slightly hard turns the casing to toast because Apple still havent fixed the fan control to work properly for XP or Vista causing the sound to screw up and GPU artifacts. Add the issues this site have already commented about Nvidia's thermal issues with 9400 and 9600 GPU's I'd say buying Applecare before the years warranty runs out is a very good idea!
Their shocking Boot Camp support for this particular MBP doesnt end here - Kbdmgr.exe hangs, gigabit lan that takes 45 seconds too long to get an IP via DHCP and a multitouch pad that BSOD's so badly and often that it's unusable without a mouse especially on battery power. It also ignores my setting to not automatically reboot on BSOD but also fails to write the error in Event Viewer. This is driver support worthy of ranking alongside an infamous OEM who sold cheap and nasty PC motherboards and not a premium product. Sort it out Apple!
Silverburn, obviously you care or you wouldn't have commented, and your comments fall exactly in line with what the point was, Mac Fanbois getting all worked up to the point of letting go of reason and turning to the old standbys.
If you were smarter then why would it be stressful? Knowledge is power, ignorance bliss, and it sounds like you've drunk all the kool-aide and are now working on the purple antifreeze.
I own many PCs, and a MAC like I mentioned before, money isn't the issue for more of us, but it is for the protagonists in M$' little play, a point you seem to miss, just like Nick said you would.
The ad is for people looking for a low-cost laptop, your reply is that the ad sucks cause you can afford a MAC and a PS3; which speaks to their other ad about the pretentiousness of the MAC fanboi, obviously those people on a budget (many in the world out there portrayed by the 'actors' in the ad) aren't 'cool enough' to own a MAC.
Thanks for proving the author and the ad campaign's points at the same time.
