China pretends Web censorship all about porn

Like everyone else
Sat Jan 24 2009, 13:17

THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT would have the world believe its Internet censorship is nothing more than an attempt to protect its youth from Pr0n and "vulgarity", rather than a cynical yet highly effective way of crushing any political dissent.

Liu Zhengrong, deputy director of the State Council Information Office's Internet Bureau, told press his country's policy was, in fact, quite similar to US and European laws which took measures to protect kids from pornographic or harmful sites.

Of course, the fact political and anti party websites just happen to fall under the same umbrella as vulgar and pornographic websites is just an unfortunate coincidence, we're sure. Especially in a year when China is being particularly oversensitive over the 20th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre, we wouldn't want the Chinese to risk allowing any vulgarity to leak out.

With an absolutely straight face, Liu noted, "We fully realise that the crackdown on vulgar websites will be long-lasting, complicated and difficult," adding "We will not abandon efforts to clean up the Internet environment under any circumstances."

And if cleaning up the Internet involves censoring sites the communist party deems politically subversive, then, folks, get out your virtual Hoovers.

The zealous Chinese government has already closed down over 1,200 websites it isn't keen on, including popular Chinese blogging site bullog.cn.

Bullog, unfortunately, had bloggers who unwisely signed a manifesto back in December calling for greater civil freedoms and elections in China, something, we assume, made it a site which, in Liu's little red book, would "threaten the mental and physical health of youth and threaten to damage the healthy development of the Internet".

Looks like, despite its proclaimed ‘good intentions', China's government has been caught red handed. µ

Triangular Hate Relationship

China is opposed to religion
Religion is opposed to Porn
Porn is opposed to Censorship

To China: Look at religions, study which one is best for China, I'm thinking one with reasonable surpassing human logic which is non violent. Would that not benefit China?

To religion: Banning pornography draws attention to it's marketing ploys. Information on the matter by scripture is the best defence. China's people I do think would like this personal attention.

To the pornography Industry: Liberty and freedom of expression is a form of communication, the peddling of sexually explicit material is not efficient to execute commonly needed social chores and work. Sexual stimuli cannot benefit in taking out the trash, cook food, etc. Frankly your products are droning [expendable bees] the global human society.

Post Modern Heresy

Here’s the SP that most don’t even come close to unravelling about the Chinese and their government – especially the Chinese themselves – at least that’s what the Great Helmsman was rambling-on the other night – really, he should just “return” and face his music.

The strength of any nation is in its people. “No”, duckies & duckesses, eets not technology/intellect nor beliefs/religions/herd-ability – or how to manage those who rely mostly on their conditionings for their day-to-day existence. Now, the thing that most know about humans is that they are easily controllable – you just give them what they want, whether it is for their own good or not. The politico’s mantra. Afterall, even God, should He exists, is allowing humans a free reign, to the point where they can destroy all – well, almost all, but you’ve got to be subtle when facing idiotics-cum-lunatics. Just the backdoor key will do.

So, how will any entity managed 1.x billion widely difering viewpoints? Democracy, which is actually demonocracy/demoncrazy/abandonments in practice, or communism, which is merely control-freakism in reality. Neither, of course, but when there has to be one choice, which is the better whilst not forgetting that any combination thereof is merely greying out the picture. ‘Tis not the time nor place to experiment with idiotic-cum-lunatic ideas.

Now, believe-it-or-not, the human body and its wider manifestation, is a reflection of Reality and as such, is not really owned by its occupant, that barker-cum-howler who thinks he exists to replace Reality. It has been so since Day One and to sustain and nurture the illusionist-cum-delusionist, emmisaries/incarnations/messangers have been despatched to guide the egotists-cum-superegotist throughout his evolution which, in Reality, is actually Evolution; that gap which spans from Dust [back] to Godhood. The Chinese have had two such guides – Confucius and Lao Tze, who “sprouted” many other “branches” who’ve kept the “spirit” alive. Their culture, which is actually very similar to the Indian culture – inspite of Anglo-Saxony’s attempts at dividing their rulers.

A person is his own master but like the beggar who’d been crowned king but doesn’t and couldn’t accept his reality and still asks for, “A penny gov”, from all he meets, we cannot be so until we’ve realised who we really are - our true unfrastructure. As such, for the Chinese, because they have their culture mostly intact, inspite of Elvis Wongs’ and Elizabeth Chens’ conversion to “technology”-cum-“religion”, variously known as pimping-cum-whoring, or anything that satisfies one’s idiocy-cum-lunacy, like prancing with the minimum of clothing, sending madmen to Mars and beyond [thank God], wanton alcoholic celebrations and those festive indulgence marked by fizzy drinks-cum-cowpats consumption, or “sophistication-cum-fashion-cum-pride” exhibition of the lack of self-confidence, their culture will continue whether democracy or communism takes charge – the one exception being that through democracy, destruction comes that much faster.

If God is not within ALL, including Chosen Fews of whatever race, creed & denomination, Square One won’t even exist, let alone heartbeats. Democracy only-works/is-only-so when there is morality and the liberation of porn, be it used as an excuse to control or be defended to promote destruction of innocence/morality/wisdom, is merely using pros to settle cons. Reality has little hand in the matter. Realise the following and Reality will reveal Itself, “Masculinity is Femininity expressed”. It makes no difference to anyone when two primates are arguing about humanity for they cannot realise it. When one realises Reality, the sight of two humans arguing about Truth/Reality/Global-Warming/Saving-The-Earth/Polar-Bears and similar expressions of stupidity-cum-dumbness, means just that – it’s mere stupidity arguing with dumbness – regardless of whether fortunes of wealth can be amassed, orgetting away with murder yet again, or being able to kill many with the push of a button. It is still two monkeys aguing over a banana.

Due to the lack of morality and not realising what morality really means, freedom will always mean abandonment – for most [99.99%?]- because most do not realise who they really are. When a person deliberately ingests smoke/defiles his lungs, takes alcohol/defiles his liver, gorges himself/defiling his stomach, analysing, planning in extremis/defiling his aortic plexus, defiles his chastity/damaging his innoicence, believing blindly in a god/promoting lunacy, exposes his lack of self-mastery/confidence through sophisticating/fashioning [thereby allowing himself to be debased/controlled by destruction of all sorts], preaching/selling-divinity [if God exists, what will/should he make of this lot] and much more, how can we save anything when we can’t even save ourself. One thing is for sure, abandonments lead to destruction much quicker than those creaky control-freaks for control limits activity. When there is culture that is benevolent, however, control at least allows for some measure of balance to be effected whereas abandonment is like nuclear fission unless there is control [rods] which takes us back to control once again. Control it is then until Morality is instilled to the level where diversity/democracy can stand on its own and comprehends its duty. Diversity/Freedom is for promoting Collectivity/Love because Love [which is not to be confused with “love”/attachment] is the ONLY aspect which is common to ALL – without exception - Chosen Fews included.

Should any intellectual-cum-conditional starts barking/howlinhg about progress-cum-technology in all fields within humanity like economics & politics, say, let any screw-cum-nut look at the current exposition of greed-cum-fear. Learnt anything yet or is it just a harbinger on how to protect one’s “resources” to maximise returns for “retirement”. Greed & fear are not merely words. They are immorality expressed. We should stop finger-pointing about the Chinese, Indians, 3rd World dictators this and that to hide our guilt about our predecessors’ “activities”. Anger is merely guilt expressed.

We won’t be a better person unless and until we have become our own master. Trying to master others through the armoury of one’s idiocy-cum-lunacy will not enable us to realise our duty. A human’s duty is to become one and not through merely reflecting the vestiges of our past evolution which only knows how to bark & howl. Humans cannot be Truth nor Intelligence - we can only be their reflections and to do so necessitates an untarnished surface. Others’ state of reflectivity have no bearing on our own desire for morality should others not be reflecting what we are reflecting. Taking our kettle to another stove which has no flame will not bring our kettle to the boil. In this final era of morality, we have to return to our own own roots to enable self-growth. Others’/technology/finger-pointing/excuses are only for delusion-cum-illusion. We are not others’ master nor slave. We are our own master and mastery means knowledge/truth expressed.

It's not "extra-ordinary rendition" is it?

It's not as if the Chinese are running around kidnapping people all over the world. That's the Americans ;-)

It's not the Chinese who said "We are invading due to Weapons of Mass Destruction", found no WMD's, but managed to have 300,000 civilians die in Iraq.

If Tiananmen Square was a massacre, then what was Iraq?

I'm all for free speech

but lets come back to reality here. This is much like the average Occidentals view of Iran because western "reporters" go out of their way to exaggerate isolated problems and then extend them to the entirety of the country and its' people. If you want to find warm, honest and friendly people then take a vacation in Iran.

Sure, China has its censorship but so does everyone else. Have all the free speech one likes in France as well as all the sex and other niceties of civilization but DON'T speak of politics. China has its' very fun and friendly side and Chinese women have the same needs as any other (I personally had a lot of "experience with Chinese ladies while I was there) but, unlike the West, Asians like to keep these thing private. Looking from the outside in its easy for a journalist to make things seem as if live in China is dull and repressive....its not.

Where is it written that Porn should be public? Where it is written that political criticisms should be anonymous and go unchecked and unproven?

Trying to controle abuses does not mean eliminating free expression. Is their solution perfect? No. Is any solution perfect? No.

sarcasm

this is just sarcasm from the Chinese about the restrictions placed on EU countries and American internet, and the ever more increased adoption of civil rights abuses and laws passed that threaten our privacy and freedoms.

Isn't western press quick to slam china about human rights abuses while our governments doing the same but the press fail to give this a mention, western hypocrites or what.

Nice one china good joke...

Most probably aware

I'm sure most Chinese are aware of the BS nature of the censorship at least to some extent. The willingness of them to speak out about it is another matter...since speaking out or talking about it is likely to land them jail if overheard.

Mister

Consider it from a party member's point of view: Antigovernment sites are obscene to them, especially considering an irony in history. Of course this is redefining the word 'is' when saying it's vulgar. :)

wut

It's not about us, it's about the chininese public who are still buying this all. And the ones who aren't, are too afraid to say it.

Why?

Why do they even try to come up with these bogus excuses anymore? The entire world knows what's going on and what they are trying to do. Just like the press lockouts, designated protest zones, and forged birth certificates in the Olympic Games, we all know the government has 100% complete control on what the society thinks, sees, and feels. And if it's not what the governement wants, it shuts them down. We know. We get it. You're the same China you have always been. So don't call it a porn crack down. You're not fooling anyone. Just call it what it is.
