Maybe AMD should stop telling us what they are going to do and when they are going to do it.? I just want them to do something, pull their thumbs out of their asses and do it!

Subject: itanic death
Of course the itanic isn't going to die! These guys (http://www.platform-solutions.com/prod-tech.php) found a way to run z/os on itanic2 (and have been IMMEDIATELY sued by Big Glue), so I guess that in Satan Clara they have seen a huge opportunity to step on Big Glue's toes. As i'm sure you know, mainframes are not mainstream but tons of money are involved....

Subject: Sexoffenders on Myspce
My question would be how did they identify them s sexoffenders, are these people really that stupid to give their real info. And what about those that are smart enough not to give their correct info, it is not a requirement. If they caught 29,000 with real personal info, how many others were smart enough to make an alias. I would be really curious to know how they figured these people were ligitimate sex offenders, there could be many people out there with the same name, who are not perverts.
But as a parent I am pleased to know they are actively trying to take action against this. I do not care how much debt they have paid to society, once a sex offender, more than likely always a sex offender. I have not spent much time on Myspace, but I would think that they should have a link on the site to report someone who is behaving inappropriately on that site.

Subject: Mobile Phones Don't Fry Brains ...
I think that the study results show that some people *were* able to determine whether the transmitter was on or off. The authors fail to detect or acknowledge this because of the statistical methods they use.
The study reports that 7 subjects out of 158 determined correctly 6 times whether the transmitter was on or off.
The likelihood of 7 or more subjects out of 158 getting a one-in-64 guess correct at random is just 1.3% (ie: very unlikely!).
The most likely outcome is that 2 out of 158 'guess' correctly.
Please get your resident statistician to check this.
I would have concluded that at least some of the particpants were not just guessing! Some of the them must have been able to tell when the transmitter was on or off.
Whether brains are fried or not is another question ...

Subject: AMD leakage
Dear Charlie
Really crazy this article. Someone who cannot properly read data sheets posts some incorrect data and everyone reflects this if it would be truth.
The problem is very simple: AMD 90 nm parts are preselected in low power and very lower power bins (TDP 89W and 65W).
Now author compares the low power ones with regular 65 nm. Clear that the carefully selected look very good, almost as good as if they would be 65 nm, however that is only achieved by heavy selection. The normal 90 nm parts look far worse and are contained in data sheet as ADA part. All this is clearly stated in data shett. However if someone can't read (or don't want to push INTC shares ...).
Real comparison however is like this:
90 nm unselected:
ADA5000IAA5CZ (therefore ADA instead ADO)
24.8 A @1.35V, 5.7A @ 1.1V, TDP 89Watt
65 nm unselected:
ADO5000IAA5DD
16.6A @ 1.35V, 4.4A @ 1.1V, TDP 65Watt
So you see clearly the improvements of 65 nm. Better overall TDP, much less leakage.
Reagrding the TDP selected parts:
90 nm selected:
ADO5000IAA5CZ
14.8A @ 1.25V, 4.8A @ 1.1V, 65W TDP
65 nm selected:
AD?5000IAA5DD
? @ 1.25V, ? @ 1.1V, 45W TDP
Data sheet not yet available for the BE-series, however TDP of 45 Watt is announced.
So the whole thing was based on misunderstanding the meaning of ADA and ADO type processors. ADA = 89 Watt parts, ADO = 65 Watt parts, for 65 nm standard, for 90 nm: with special TDP selection, AD? = 45 Watt parts, 90 nm: not available, 65 nm with special TDP selection.
Okay the problem is not that someone made a mistake but such grap is taken as news ...

Subject: apple charger
I believe one of the reasons for Nokia phones to be so popular (at least here in Europe) is that they have used the same charger for ages, so you know that, if you suddenly need one, somebody will lend you one, wherever you are.
Nokia has changed that recently, but at least it is using its new adaptor for all the new models.
Apple is just running in the opposite direction. Bad idea.

Subject: Sales of OSX
Dear Nick, ? I thought I would have my say as to why I will likely never buy an Apple even though they do seem to have a lot going for them.
? It all comes down to risk. I would need to use one for something like 3-6 months to really evaluate them, but even the minis are quite expensive and I am will not fork out that much to try one despite all their capabilities and Apple's claim they "just work". At least with PC's often there is the option of just replacing one component, and I use them all the time and know they can do what I need even if not that well at times. ? I might even be able to persuade my managers to get me one at work and there might even be flow on effects if they do work well, but will not risk egg on my face without having tried them out first at home.
? I can think of no easy way to solve this problem and Steve Jobs may be right in only targeting his design/aesthetics infatuated faithful. If he could release a genuinely low cost Mac, say for $300 US or preferably but probably impossible for $200, even with limited spec's but reasonable responsiveness that ran OSX then this would provide considerable assurance for people "switching" when their PC is next up for replacing. It would need to be able to do some basics like browse the web, play DVD's and would need to have a DVD burner. It would also need to have some appeal as a 2nd PC to encourage sales, say something that can be hooked up to a TV for the children to surf the Web and play (at least some) flash games or can be hooked up to a monitor/keyboard/mouse for older children to write assignments.
? Of course it may not be possible to get OSX to be responsive on a low performance system. But if it could be tweaked, it would also a testament to the quality of engineering in Apple products.
? I can think of a similar and perhaps more feasible option too. And that is to use an iPhone. The option to connect to a TV or to a monitor/keyboard/mouse and run OSX would let many people experience OSX. Assuming that is, that iPhones become at least a fraction as ubiquitous as iPods. Would be a cheap option for? those that have an iPhone.
? (Long post I know, but I don think there are more people who think like me.)

In response to Robbie who said Vista and XP searchs mean they make 34% of the worlds problems :P
Google search problem = 713,000,000
Google search XP problem = 133,000,000
Google search Vista problem = 136,000,000
Now here is a new un;
Google search OS X problem = 150,000,000
Fair enough Apple only has just over 50% less issues in comparison to the amount of PC's running XP and Vista(not so much vista :P) it blatantly causes more issues.
Begin the flaming from the Apple fan boys.

Subject: my space sex offender account deletion
How does myspace know which accounts are sex offenders?
Why don't sex offenders have more than 1 email address?
I have like 10 yahoo emails.
Well, we all better go login and see if we've been deleted.

Subject: Apple moves to tie Iphones, Pods to charger
So after apple was given praise in a recent environmental report for their iphone incorporating several devices into one, requiring just one charger, reducing power consumption; they come up with this ingenius idea to force people to have more chargers. So much for going green, gg apple.

Well normally when you people write about another just another Wikipedia's all-mighty contributors' goof, I'd vent to you some more bashing. But this article needs no amendment at all, good job.
And by the way that wiki page is ridicously pathetic by itself, therefore my inevitable bashing of the day can safely end here.

I have to say, that no one cares about a 3.2ghz chip on am2.
If it were on 939, and priced at 220 dollars, it would sell out in a matter of minutes.

Subject: AT&T Network Problems
Their seems to be a problem in AT&T'S long haul internet network.? Playing games, like World of Warcraft or any other XBOX live, gets you lag spikes.? WOW, is unplayable, and most other online games, you go from 100 ms to 2k ms.? Have tried the game company and cable company, they told me the problem is middleman which in this case is AT&T networks, it's been doing this since the 15th of July,? people are complaining and calling their isps.? XBOX refuses to download updates, even though network connection test works, but its cant get a constant lag free connection so it fails.? Unfortunately they tell you they can't do anything about it.? Take a look at dslreports.com forums, and world of warcraft forums, and you will see a lot of complaints.? It seems like there is no way to contact AT&T since we are not directly a customer.?
