Nintendo has a Wii look at 3D
New DS coming at ya

THE MAKER of the bizarrely named console Wii, Nintendo has slipped out a press release in Japan saying it will be releasing 3D capable portable hardware.

Apparently we will get a look at the next generation DS handheld console during E3 2010 this June and it is called the 3DS, but by the time it hits the shops it will probably be called poopy plops.

What is interesting about this 3D bit of game gear is that you will not need glasses to have a butcher's.

It is being pitched as the successor to both the DS and DSi, and will use a "compatible cart" that should ensure backwards compatibility with your vast library of favorites from the older consoles.

Nintendo expects to launch the 3DS into retail "during the fiscal year ending March 2011."

There are few details about the techology that will be going under the bonnet at this point, however at CES Chipzilla was showing off technology that could fit the bill. µ

wow

They might have a big winner here (again) since handheld games are really geared toward one player so the 'only one person can see 3D' problem is irrelevent. The other people watching from either side will just have to settle for 2D. :)

I wonder if Sony is going this route, too.
