I usually have the internet disabled on my PiSsy3 coz I really don't think anyone needs to know when I play a game or a watch a BR. I don't know if any of y'all play Dead Space on a PC but that game REQUIRES an internet connection or no play. At least on a PiSsy3 you can play at least some (all AFAIK) single player games.

What irks me most about PSN is that can't take on an avatar of the species of your choice -- it is eminently unfair to all Canine-Americans.

Indeed, such a widespread error is a disappointment, and a poor decision made by Sony on the trophy situation relying solely on PSN... it's flat-out lame that you cannot play a singleplayer game offline.

But in the end, this is a videogame, folks. Perhaps it would do us all some good to pick up a book for a day or two, mow/shovel the lawn, wash the dog, maybe go down to the pub and talk to your fellow humans sans bluetooth headset. Stop acting like Sony owes you (or indeed, will compensate you in any form) because you couldn't play a game for a couple days. Or were you hoping that Microsoft just "wished" upon you a BlueRay version of Uncharted 2 or Heavy Rain for the 360? Oh, and a drive that could read them. Yeah, no. I find this rather frustrating not because i cant play on my games but i just wanna no whether all my points have been lost in COD MW2 ? coz if they have that sucks big time, spent so long gaining them, lets just hope that Sony get it fixed within the next 24 hours, i shud imagine they will, coz like all other companies they prepare for things like this. First off, no one will lose downloaded content. I had to sell my first PS3 about a year ago due to a financial crunch I was going through at the time and just recently got another one (a used fat system, so yeah, I'm affected). I was able to log into PSN and redownload all the games I had bought.

As for not having online play for a day or two while they fix the problem....Well, stop being babies. You'll live. Really, you will. You're all reminding me of a recording that was floating around the internet for a while of a 14 year old throwing a temper tantrum that would put my two year old to shame because his parents made him get off WoW.

They're games people. You know, something to entertain? If they're so important to you that you're threatening to switch consoles because you can't get online for a day or two maybe you should consider just getting rid of your console altogether and attending whatever AA lookalike they have for recovering game addicts.

I think that a lot of people are missing something here. When we all bought our consoles, we had to activate them before we got all of the features. Since this firmware issue has set the date to before the activation I'm fairly sure that it has caused the consoles to lose their "activated" status and as a result, no PSN access, no authorised content. This isn't to say everyone should go into their account settings and try to activate their consoles again, this will more than likely cause more problems.

I believe this is a comparitively minor problem. Anyone worried about losing paid for content doesn't need to. Anything which you have downloaded will still be in your PSN account download list and you SHOULD be able to download it again if you need to (new console or not). As for needing new hardware in the first place, I think people need to be reminded that when you go to upgrade your PS3 console, it asks whether you want to do it from the internet or from media, I think that if Sony cannot organise a workaround for the PSN connection, they will simply issue a firmware update online which you copy onto your PS3 using a USB device or even a good old fashioned CD-R.

So, those people who are freaking out, give it a rest and just keep your eyes open, it isn't dead yet, just a little disabled and Sony are working on the cure. People who don't yet own a PS3 and are just drawn to this scare story, if you've read the other comments, above this, there are plenty of people ready to get rid of their consoles because of this little, cureable bug. Chances are there will be loads of PS3 classic consoles going on ebay for silly money soon as "spares or repair".

Current owners of Playstation 3's sit tight, a fix will be available soon. Future owners of PS3's good bargain hunting on ebay :-P

I AM UNBELIEVABLY ANNOYED. just went out to buy heavy rain. wait a year for updates and installation. AND LOW AND BEHOLD, CAN'T PLAY IT WITHOUT FRIGGING TROPHIES. I have wasted SO much time on this machine for updates and messing around with errors. It would have been infintely easier, better graphics, more intuitive to get a half decent PC.

The only comment im going to make is that the company microsoft can predict a system glitch back in 1999 before 2000 hit why cant the programers and techs @ sony be able to do this instead they can create the slim that is unneffected so why neglect the phat models . older computers back in 1999 were able to survive with just a simple update . to conclude microsoft has curbed sony from the beginning from the lack in ping and internet conflicts. you could almost say the fact that a person can get a browser on playstation is almost a conspiracy .

Hope this is not a scam just to get us to buy the new slim line model..if it is then im selling all my ps3 equipment switching to x-box and will never touch a sony product ever again.

I've had PS3 since it came out, a 60gb model and been playing online ever since. With something like that there will be the occasional problem but Sony always get the fix out ASAP, look how quickly they solved the freezing issue with GTA IV. All those getting so worked up about it need to find something else to do with their time rather than worrying about not being able to play games.

Why would anyone get so angry about this that they think its time to get the xbox out? Everyone I know has had the red ring of death which is way worse than this repairable error. I have never had a problem with any Playstation I've owned. This is just a minor speed bump

About not getting to play games even in offline mode...

Some games (even if you play offline) try to connect to the network to look for updates when you start them up. I think at this point in your offline gaming experience you get the error and you can't play the game.

My thought would be to go into network settings and actually disable your internet connection to hopefully keep the game from trying to connect online and get the error.

Let us not all forget that just in the last couple weeks the issue of the PSN not being free has been brought to attention. There has been a lot of buzz about them starting to charge for online gaming or "premium" services (which I'm sure is what we all use!!). I think that between the PS3 meltdown and IF THEY DO go through with the charging for PSN... They might as well close their doors down. I know several gamers who HESITANTLY switched to the "Chubby" PS3 due to irritation of having to pay for XBOXLive and the XBOX's notorious RROD. I know I have second guessed that thought with my circle of friends being predominatly on XBOX, but hey PSN was FREE. A global recall and NO FREE PSN... HEELLLOOOO XBOX I'M BACK!!!

either it's a legit problem sony has on their hands OR they want us all to buy the slim versions. either way Sony don't squirm and try to escape the liability you have to your customers like you did with the $149.00 PS3 laser repair bill you duped many people out of, me excluded (LOL!) Not only does the error code affect trophies it also affects any downloadable content bought from the playstation store. I hauve bought all 3 downloads for boarderlands and my hunter was wearing a shield from secert armory and now he's not.
