A STAINLESS STEEL calculator watch prototype from 1977 can be yours at eBay for just $14,500.
The watch, which is huge and shiny and presumably heavy, is a prototype of the infamous HP-01 calculator watch, a space age piece of kit that came out when Star Wars was big and sideburns were bigger.
The prototype of the watch has appeared on eBay in a private listing. The calculator wrist weight has a Buy It Now price of $14,500 and we would not be surprised if someone hasn't already offered that.
The prototype is unique and does not need much introduction, but the eBay listing includes a good whack of details.
"Here we have a stainless steel high glossy HP-01 calculator watch prototype from 1977 in unparalleled cosmetic and working condition. Untouched since 37 years. This is a prototype of the model 1A-007 which has never been released," says the enthusiastic listing.
"There isn't any serial number or date of manufacture on the case back. Unworn and original HP-01 watches are very hard to find nowadays since most of them are worn down and [defective] after almost 40 years."
When we checked it the eBay listing was getting about 70 visits an hour. At the time of writing it is still available and has a good few days to go.
The watch presently resides in Spain. If you want to have it sent out of that country you will have to pay $175 in shipping fees and probably some import tax. Tempted, ready and willing to buy, but confused by the figures? It looks like you might need a calculator watch. µ
See? Wasn't that hard was it?
It's no wonder they cost a small fortune ...
