Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini with 4.5in HD screenKOREAN PHONE MAKER Samsung's Galaxy S5 Mini smartphone has gone up for pre-order in the UK, ahead of its release in "late July".

While rumours last month claimed that the Galaxy S5 Mini would arrive in mid-July, UK retailer Clove has announced otherwise. It has started taking pre-orders for the smartphone on its website, revealing the handset's "late July" release date and its £379.99 price, which we have contacted Samsung to confirm.

Clove is offering the Galaxy S5 Mini in blue, black and white colour options, with the gold model yet to go up for pre-order.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini was announced earlier this month as a cheaper, smaller alternative to the flagship Galaxy S5. However, with a 4.5in 720x1280 resolution screen, and dimensions of 131x65x9.1mm, it's in fact not actually very small.

Still, following in the footsteps of its flagship sibling, the Galaxy S5 Mini has a perforated plastic design complete with IP67 certification, and houses a heart rate sensor in its rear casing. Much like the Galaxy S5, there's also a fingerprint scanner in the handset's home button.

Under the bonnet there's a quad-core 1.4GHz processor, 1.5GB of RAM and a 2,100mAh battery, which Samsung claims will offer 21 hours of talk time.

Beyond that, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini features Google's Android 4.4.2 Kitkat mobile operating system skinned in Samsung's Touchwiz user interface, dual 8MP and 2.1MP cameras, 4G LTE support, Bluetooth 4.0, and NFC.

Once it is released later this month, the Galaxy S5 Mini will also be available on contract, although pricing details remain to be announced. µ
