TOSHIBA added two tablets to its Encore range on Tuesday, the Encore 2 WT8-B and Encore 2 WT10-A, which will arrive among the first to run Microsoft's Windows 8.1 with Bing.
The two Toshiba Encore 2 tablets measure 8in and 10.1in, respectively, and both will be powered by a quad-core Intel Atom chip and Microsoft's newly-announced Windows 8.1 with Bing, a low-cost Windows 8.1 alternative for OEMs looking to make affordable Windows devices. This, Toshiba boasts, also gives buyers a one-year Microsoft Office 365 subscription.
Microsoft VP of worldwide OEM marketing Peter Han chirped, "The mobility provided by the Toshiba Encore 2 family, deliver[s] a flexible solution for customers in a mobile-first world.
"Toshiba's continued innovation combined with touch and the capabilities in Windows 8.1 deliver an experience that will delight customers."
Both 8in and 10.1in tablets also feature dual 5MP and 1.2MP cameras, Bluetooth 4.0, 32GB of internal storage and a fetching "satin gold" colour option. Those who don't fancy a gold tablet might have to think twice, as they won't be available in any other colours.
The tablets also both feature 1280x800 resolution screens, which means that although it's likely to be cheaper, the 8in Toshiba Encore 2 will likely look the sharpest of the two. Its 10in sibling will trump it in performance, however, with 2GB RAM compared to 1GB, although both will offer 8.5 hours of battery life.
Both the 8in and 10.1in Toshiba Encore 2 tablets will be available in Europe during the third quarter. Toshiba has yet to announce pricing and release date details.
Alongside its two new Windows 8.1 tablets, Toshiba also announced two new two-in-one devices - the Toshiba Satellite Click 2 L30W, and the Toshiba Satellite Click 2 Pro P30W.
The catchily-named Satellite Click 2 L30W will be the more affordable of the two, touting a 13.3in 1366x768 resolution screen, an Intel Core i3 CPU, a 500GB hard disk, Windows 8.1 and eight hours of battery life. There's also integrated Skullcandy audio, Toshiba boasts, and it will be available in the same "satin gold" finish as the Encore 2 tablets.
The Toshiba Satellite Click 2 Pro P30W is described by the firm as a "premium ultrabook" and has a 13.3in 1920x1080 resolution screen powered by an dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, up to 8GB of RAM and up to a 256GB SSD.
Both of Toshiba's new Satellite devices will also debut in the third quarter. µ
