BRITISH SKY BROADCASTING (Sky) has sent letters to thousands of customers that have its WiFi equipment warning them that the power supplies could fall apart.
Customers with either Sky's Wireless Signal Booster or certain variants of the Set Top Box WiFi Connector have been advised to unplug the units and test for any sign of weakness in the power supply, or missing screws.
Sky has confirmed that WiFi Connector models that are powered by USB only are not affected.
The letter, which we received, reads, "Our investigations tell us this issue only affects a small number of units, but it's important to carry out [safety checks]."
A Sky spokesperson explained the issue to The INQUIRER, and was keen to point out that only one of its customer has reported a problem so far.
"We've become aware of a potential fault affecting a very small number of our products," Sky said. "Only one customer has reported a problem, which relates to the assembly of the power adaptor. We're taking the precaution of contacting all customers with these products to ask them to make some simple checks to confirm that everything is as it should be."
Customers who find a problem with their equipment, or have concerns, should contact Sky at 0800 015 2582 in the UK or 1800 927 494 in Ireland.
Sky introduced WiFi enabled set-top boxes last year, however the vast majority of those in circulation still require connection either by Ethernet or through one of the connectors, which the company offers free of charge.
