RETAIL GIANT Amazon's long-rumoured smartphone has leaked in an official looking rendering, outing the handset as an iPhone lookalike.

BGR got its mitts on an image of the Amazon smartphone, revealing its design, which is very similar to that of the iPhone, for the first time.

According to the website, "multiple sources" have confirmed the image is legitimate, which means Amazon's smartphone likely will have a glass coated body and a polished, chamfered bezel. Its exposed screws on the bottom show a resemblance to the iPhone, and its polished finish hints that the design will feature an all around premium design, although it's not yet clear what materials device will be built from.

As noted by BGR, it's thought the device will be quite large, too, although the website noted that it will be "reasonably comfortable to use with one hand". This will be further aided by Amazon's built-in gesture controls, which we detailed in another leak last month.

This latest leak revealed that another standout feature will be something called "Prime Data", and while it's not clear exactly what this will do, the website noted that "the phone could be an AT&T exclusive and Prime Data may be a monthly data package that includes a certain amount of Prime video and music streaming free of charge".

Beyond that, the yet-unnamed Amazon smartphone, which likely will launch under the Kindle brand, reportedly will feature a 4.7in HD 720p display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 4G LTE support and a heavily customised version of Android, which much like the firm's Kindle tablets, will rely on the Amazon's mobile app store for third-party software distribution.

Perhaps most interestingly, the device reportedly will also feature six individual camera modules, which will allow the smartphone to offer glasses-free 3D.

Amazon has yet to comment on the rumours, but it's thought that the Kindle smartphone will make its debut in late spring or early summer before it starts shipping in September. µ
