GOOGLE HAS ACQUIRED the New Mexico based drone company Titan Aerospace.
The company revealed its new home on its website. It is glad to be joining Google and said that the firm will use its technology to provide internet access in developing countries, which has been one of Google's long-term projects for some time.
Bill Gates did not like it, but some can see its potential benefits, including Titan and Google.
"It's still early days for the technology we're developing, and there are a lot of ways that we think we could help people, whether it's providing internet connections in remote areas or helping monitor environmental damage like oil spills and deforestation," Titan said.
"That's why we couldn't be more excited to learn from and work with our new colleagues as we continue our research, testing and design work as part of the Google family. To everyone here in New Mexico and around the world who has supported us so far - thank you. We couldn't have made it this far without your support."
Google has already made moves in the direction of internet in hard to reach areas and has its helium balloon Project Loon. Project Loon has one famous non-fan in Bill Gates. Google told us that the two companies combined will deliver good things, at some time.
"Titan Aerospace and Google share a profound optimism about the potential for technology to improve the world. It's still early days, but atmospheric satellites could help bring internet access to millions of people, and help solve other problems, including disaster relief and environmental damage like deforestation," said a spokesperson. "It's why we're so excited to welcome Titan Aerospace to the Google family."
Last month Facebook invested in a similar project when Mark Zuckerberg revealed that he partnered with the NASA Ames Research Centre and UK drone company Ascenta to build solar-powered unmanned aircraft that will beam WiFi from the skies. µ
