Internet search and advertising firm keeps investing

INTERNET PORTAL Yahoo has bought another company, this time the social media highlight reel outfit Vizify.

Yahoo and its CEO Marissa Mayer are in something of a transition, and the firm is shoring up its business and adding to it.

Yahoo said that Vizify is a good fit for it and shares a love for "visualisation technology", and that it welcomed the company's staff into its fold.

Vizify said that it is glad to be moving to Sunnydale, and that it will sunset its existing business. It appears that the two parties have a reasonably longstanding relationship. Vizify has been around only since 2011, and ramped up the relationship with wedding talk last summer.

"Since last summer, we've been engaged in a conversation with some of the incredible folks at Yahoo about the ways this more visual approach to data can inspire and entertain. As our conversations progressed, we realized we'd found a partner who shared our passion for user experience, design, and visualizing information," Vizify said.

"Ultimately, we just couldn't say no to the opportunity to bring our vision to the hundreds of millions of people who use Yahoo every day. As part of the transition to Yahoo, we will be sunsetting the Vizify service. As for what's next, we can't talk specifics just yet, but we're excited to bring a more visual approach to data at Yahoo. We have a lot more up our sleeves and can't wait to get started."

The firm is not accepting any new customers, and will refund any company that bought a Vizify package. Users should expect an email within the next two weeks.

Vizify is the eighth company that Yahoo has acquired this year. Its other trophies include Sparq, a mobile marketing outfit. µ
