THE ANDROID BASED Ouya games console is out in fresh matte black livery now.

Hewn from black plastic, the latest version of the console has twice the internal storage of the previous silver and black model.

On sale now through the Ouya.tv webpage it has a price tag of $130 and 16GB of storage. The original model is also still available with 8GB of internal storage and costs $99.

The new model hasn't just had a lick from a colour palette, it comes with a tweaked and refined controller and improved wireless internet and bluetooth connections.

A promotional image released by the firm said that the matte black model has double the storage and thus double the fun. We have used 'fun' here as shorthand for games and apps.

"[It has] all the latest firmware enhancements for better performance," it boasted. "The controller is the refined version that you've been hearing about - better sticks, better buttons, faster response."

In the run up to Christmas US punters were offered a 16GB model in white plastic. That release was very limited, not just only in the US. As with the black model, that unit cost $130 while it was on sale.

The Ouya was a fairly immediate success right from its appearance on the Kickstarter crowdfunding website.

It quickly raised its necessary cash through Kickstarter and when it went on sale at places like Amazon it sold like hotcakes.

The Ouya games console went on sale last summer, eventually hitting stores in June after missing an earlier April target. µ
