STORAGE MAKER Synology has announced two business network attached storage (NAS) products.
The rack mountable RS814+ and RS814RP+ rackstation NAS models have dual-core 2.13GHz processors with 2GB of DDR3 RAM, expandable to 4GB, and are capable of managing up to 32TB of storage with expansion. They also boast three USB 3.0 ports.
Failsafe mechanisms onboard include failover support in the four connected LAN ports in case of data connection interruption, while the RP+ model also includes a redundant power supply.
The hot-swappable four-bay rackstations are designed for small to medium businesses, optimised for those running a Windows environment. Link aggregation is enabled to offer 330MBps read and 196MBps write speeds.
"The need for more processing power is rising as data usage grows. The RS814+/RS814RP+ is designed to address such needs, and is also optimised for business environments by providing the performance, reliability, and scalability at an affordable cost," said Michael Wang, product manager at Synology headquarters in Taiwan.
The RS814+ and RS814RP+ systems run Diskstation 4.3, a bespoke operating system that Synology claims is intuitive to manage and includes a range of utilities.
The systems are compliant with VMware, Citrix and Hyper V virtualisation systems and are available globally now. µ
