JAPANESE HARDWARE MAKER Sony unveiled the Xperia Z1 Compact at CES in Las Vegas in January.

Unlike other downsized devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini or HTC One Mini, the Xperia Z1 Mini retains the same specifications as its high-end predecessor, and even has a screen upgrade, with Sony equipping the device with an IPS LCD display.

Along with its 4.3in HD display, buyers will find a quad-core 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, Google's Android 4.3 Jelly Bean mobile operating system, with an upgrade to Android 4.4 Kitkat already confirmed, and a 20.7MP rear-facing camera, the same as found on Sony's flagship Xperia Z1.

Below you'll find everything you need to know about picking up the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact. Keep this page bookmarked as we'll be updating it when we hear more.

Sony
Sony will be offering the Xperia Z1 Compact through its online store, and has already started taking pre-orders.

The firm has priced the handset at £449 SIM-free, with deliveries expected to begin at the end of February. Those who pre-order from Sony will also receive a free Sony Smartwatch 2.

O2
O2 was among the first to announce that it will be selling the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact on its network, and it's not available to order. For £42 a month, you can grab the handset with unlimited texts, unlimited minutes and 8GB data

The mobile operator is also offering the phone on pay as you go, priced at £479.99.

EE
Mobile operator EE has yet to announce whether it will be selling the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, having said it "has nothing to announce" yet.

Three
Much like EE, Three has said that it has no information on the Xperia Z1 Compact yet. We'll update this when we hear more.

Carphone Warehouse
UK retailer Carphone Warehouse promptly started taking pre-orders for the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact and claims to have the lowest prices on offer. So far, that seems to be the case.

Carphone Warehouse is offering the Xperia Z1 Compact on tariffs with O2, EE, Orange, T-Mobile, Talkmobile and Vodafone. The cheapest tariff is a £27 O2 offering, which comes with 300 minutes, unlimited texts, 500MB of data and £50 cash back.

Phones 4u
Pre-orders for the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact have kicked off at Phones 4u, too, and despite Sony's promise that the phone will ship in February, Phones 4u claims that the phone will be delivered on 31 January.

On the Phones 4u website, the handset can be picked up on pay monthly tariffs with EE, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone. The cheapest tariff comes in at £29 per month, courtesy of Vodafone, and comes with 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of data.

Phones 4u is not yet offering the Xperia Z1 Compact on pay as you go.

Expansys
UK retailer Expansys has started taking orders for the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, slapping the phone with a £449.99 SIM free price-tag. There's no word on a release date from the retailer yet.

Clove
SIM free retailer Clove has started selling the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, and has priced it at £430 - cheaper than buying from Sony, but without the promise of a free Smartwatch 2.

Clove has also thrown a third possible release date into the mix, saying that it will start sending out orders in mid-February.

Handtec
Retailer Handtec has also started taking pre-orders for the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, at £485.99.

There's no word on a release date yet. µ
