MOBILE USERS can now fend off criminals and charge their phones at the same time.
The Yellow Jacket mobile phone case incorporates an external battery that the company claims will effectively double the life of the phone. The firm announced at CES that it will be releasing cases for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S in February.
More unusually, however, it also includes a 650kV stun gun designed to deliver a sharp sting to attackers. Yellow Jacket explained on its website that while the stun gun is not as strong as a Taser, it should be enough to distract a mugger long enough to allow escape, and in some cases could cause temporary paralysis.
The company explained its reasoning for the product, saying, "According to an FBI report in 2011, over 3.1 million violent crimes are commited annually and CTIA states that 'Most smartphone users are never more than three feet away from their phone'."
The cases, which are currently available for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, and Samsung Galaxy S4, are capable of discharging 800 seconds of electroshock from a single charge. The product's designers explained that it has multiple safety features to ensure that it doesn't accidentally shock the user when it's inside a bag or pocket.
The Yellow Jacket might be considered a concealed weapon and has been banned in several states, so punters are advised to check their local laws before purchase.
It is worth noting that Yellow Jacket also advises customers that while the cover is on they should not allow children to play with their phone or check Facebook in the bath. µ
