LAS VEGAS: TRANSFORMERS DIRECTOR Michael Bay livened up Samsung's CES press conference on Monday by storming off stage after a teleprompter lost its place.
Bay was Samsung's special guest at its CES press conference, and he certainly made an impact.
He was brought out on stage to talk up Samsung's 105in curved Ultra HD TV, which the firm unveiled in Las Vegas on Monday to rival LG's almost identical device, but he didn't come off like a huge fan of the firm's product.
Bay immediately stalled when asked to talk about how important image quality is when watching movies, and he quickly moaned about the failing teleprompter before saying he'd "wing" the rest of his talk.
Approximately 30 seconds later, after an awkward silence, a Samsung executive asked Bay what he thought about the curve of Samsung's new TV, before Bay promptly exited the stage, a dramatic moment that was met by gasps - and oddly, applause - from the journalists in attendance.
There has been speculation that the whole thing was a PR stunt by Samsung, but given the awkwardness of it all, we're pretty sure that it wasn't a stunt.
Besides Bay's dramatic exit, Samsung's press conference also saw the firm introduce the Galaxy Tab Pro and Galaxy Note Pro tablets. The Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro is available in three different models with 8.4in, 10.1in and 12.2in screens, and the Galaxy Note Pro is available in a 12.2in model that includes an S Pen.
The Korean hardware maker also introduced what it claims is the world's first 'bendable' TV, which can transform from a normal television to a curved device.
We'll be checking out Samsung's new products on the CES show floor on Tuesday, so check back for our first impressions.
Michael Bay has since responded to Monday's incident on his blog. He said, "Wow! I just embarrassed myself at CES – I was about to speak for Samsung for this awesome Curved 105-inch UHD TV.
"I rarely lend my name to any products, but this one is just stellar. I got so excited to talk, that I skipped over the Exec VP's intro line and then the teleprompter got lost. Then the prompter went up and down - then I walked off.
"I guess live shows aren't my thing. But I'm doing a special curved screen experience with Samsung and Transformers 4 footage that will be traveling around the world." µ
