LAS VEGAS: TAIWANESE HARDWARE MAKER Acer hasn't made much of a name for itself in the UK mobile market, but it's looking to change that with the affordable Liquid Z5 smartphone.

If the handset's specifications are anything to go by, however, it might struggle. The phone, set to fetch €169 when it goes on sale in Europe later this month, features a middling 5in 480x854 display powered by a dual-core 1.3GHz processor and Google's Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean mobile operating system.

The fully plastic smartphone also features Acer's custom software, a 5MP rear-facing camera, a VGA front-facing camera and 4GB of internal storage expandable up to 64GB via microSD card.
