We take a tour of Apple's slimmer, more powerful tablet

GADGET DESIGNER Apple's iPad Air tablet made its debut in the UK on Friday, boasting a slimmer profile and more powerful components than the firm's previous tablets.

The iPad Air features the same 9.7in Retina display as its predecessors, but the screen is powered by Apple's new 64-bit A7 chip and the M7 co-processor, which debuted in the iPhone 5S. Unlike Apple's flagship smartphone however, there's no Touch ID sensor and no upgrade to the camera.

Still, compared to Apple's previous tablets, the iPad Air is 28 percent lighter at 469g, has a 48 percent smaller bezel and measures just 7mm thick, making it the lightest full-sized tablet on the market.

The tablet, available in 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB models, also features Apple's iOS 7 mobile operating system with free iWork apps, Bluetooth 4.0, 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi and optional 4G LTE connectivity.
