JAPANESE GAMES FIRM Nintendo might release its long anticipated Mario Kart 8 game for the Wii U on 25 April, according to a UK retailer.

The retailer in question is Littlewoods, which while not famous for its gaming department is among the first to start taking pre-orders for Nintendo's Mario Kart 8 and has given the first word of a potential release date. The retailer claims that the game will be released on 25 April 2014, and has put a £62 price on it.

For those who don't fancy paying over the odds for Mario Kart 8, it's also available to pre-order from Game for £44.99. Game has yet to announce a release date.

Mario Kart 8 is probably the most anticipated game among Wii U owners, and it brings a number of new features to the popular racing game.

As well as improved graphics and support for the Wii U gamepad, Mario Kart 8 introduces new online play modes and anti-gravity, allowing users to drive up walls and upside down, and a new gliding mode, which sees your vehicle of choice, be it a Turbo Blooper or Offroader, transformed into a flying device.

Nintendo has announced that we'll be seeing some new vehicles too, and has confirmed some of the characters that will be featured in the game, including Mario, Toadette, Daisy, Koopa Troopa, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Luigi, Waluigi and Peach.

We contacted Nintendo to confirm the release date but had not heard back at the time of publication, although the firm had previously confirmed that it will be released in spring next year. µ
