GAMES CONSOLE MAKER Microsoft has released a trailer for its Xbox One that will come out before Christmas.
The Redmond firm is pinning big hopes on its next games console, and in its latest financial results announcement CEO Steve Ballmer of course said that there is a good buzz growing about it.
"We are seeing lots of consumer excitement for Xbox One, Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2, and the full spectrum of Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone devices," said the outgoing Microsoft CEO.
Imagine a marketing department with a big pot of money to spend and a piece of games hardware to sell that cost a lot to develop.
That's presumably what Microsoft had and, to be fair, it has delivered. The video clip, which is really a long advertisement, makes the console look pretty exciting and manages to show off some of the games and features that you might appreciate.
"This is an invitation to a new generation," said Microsoft, "where your games and entertainment are no longer separated, but together in one.
"This is an invitation from the all-in-one Xbox One. Jump ahead."
The trailer is called Invitation and shows a range of gamers and media consumers being lured into the Xbox One games console experience by a Star Trek Mr Spock, a zombie, a big robot, a Roman army and a footballer of some kind.
Earlier Sony released its own new Playstation 4 (PS4) games console video. Sony's video was an emotional look back on its gaming pedigree and a young chap who seemed incapable of leaving his parents' home. µ
